My timetable originally included finishing the main ZCH terminal last month, and the bulk of the ground textures this month. However at the beginning of this month I was only half way through the terminal, so I'm officially behind schedule... hey, what's new.
However I have been pottering away on both the terminal and the ground textures, so it might not be as bad as I think. I have been experimenting with a different way of making the ground textures, to overcome the sharp edges using detail overlays. Now the detail texture is added directly to the ground polys, so it controlled by the alpha mask at the edges of tarmacs, taxiways etc. There are some 'features' of this technique which I'm not yet 100% sure about, as it does dirty up the look a lot -- personally I like that compared to too-tidy airports, but I need to figure out a way to tone it down!
Two major issues this month, which were annoying me. First, the colour temp of the NZCH tarmac was off, and I couldn't figure out what the problem was. Secondly, I couldn't dig a hole for the aero club bunker, I just couldn't unflatten the area. This week I was determined to figure out both of these issues, and finally manage it Friday evening... The problem turned out to be the fact that I'm getting too old for this.
Here's the bunker, finally in a hole where it belongs. Still some work to do on the actual model, but since I don't have any photos, it will be always be fairly rough.

Yet another work-in-progress ground texture shot at the aero club.
