Ok, I've been doing some research. Obviously this won't be news to you, or to most here, but it will be helpful for people like me, who don't really know anything at all about aviation.

According to Wikipedia, 'a T-tail is an empennage configuration in which the horizontal surfaces (tailplane and elevators) are mounted to the top of the vertical stabilizer.' My 't' tail is really a cruciform tail, as emfrat pointed out, so I've disqualified myself once more. I suspect that after last month's V tails, next month we'd get 'cruciforms' so I'm planning ahead.

Wikipedia does give some examples of T-Tails, but I can't find any of these as freeware. Unless I get a reasonable Lotto win this month, I'll be in trouble. Any ideas?

Incidentally, this isn't the first time Ian Warren has led me astray. 'Tea towel' -- phooey! I won't be falling for that kind of trouble-makery again.

What about default Lear, King Air, CRJ and glider?

What is this 'dee-fault' you speak of?

Ok, I said I did some research, I didn't say I did a LOT of research! Cheers, Naki.

Charl,..hate to be the party pooper but that tail isn't even a lower case " t " as the horizontal stabilizers are at the very bottom not even half way hahah,....valiant effort but non-conformal even to a sneaky "t " laugh.gif

Thank you Adrian I don't know where these guys are coming from to me a T tail has the stabilizer at the top of the tail fin and a t tail has the stabilizer in the top half of the tail fin the bottom of the t joining the top of the fusulage

WARNING

This months screenshot competition theme

6) This month's theme: "T Tails" Screenshot to include a bit of land and ocean in the same image (Please state Aircraft details and over what part of New Zealand the image was taken)

The competition is about flight simulation and T tails means aircraft with T tails

Tea towels and Whale tails do not qualify as aircraft tails

To include a bit of land and ocean the land is the solid stuff that sticks out of the Ocean that you can walk on without sinking and the Ocean is that wet liquid that surrounds the land and you can't walk on without sinking

There are so far 23 entries 17 of those entries comply with the rules 6 entries do not comply with the rules

At the end of the month only the entries that comply with the rules will go on to the voting post and all those that don't comply will not be place up for voting

Think I may have to change my entry before the end of the month, as I'm not sure you can see enough Ocean in it!

Yes I'd also like to officially change my entry... to post #123, as it's now 100% compliant!
(Sorry, Tim Shadbolt, can't argue with Nature)

Adrian, we can negotiate later about how to share first and second prizes... rolleyes.gif

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

Not me.

This is me trying to begin the process of the discussion to protest the increasingly encroaching rules in the screenshot competition. In the past, we only had two rules -- it had to be a screenshot from a flight simulator, and there was a size limit. There were two 'features' which added to the openness of the competition -- the theme was always open to interpretation, and those shots which broke the rules were still eligible for voting. Except those that were too big, and this was just because of the fact that wide images 'broke'the layout of the thread, which was confusing to some. There was always a minimum size listed, but this wasn't enforced.

I normally wouldn't vote for a small image, simply because the smaller they are, the less impact they have. Generally. Sometimes a tiny little masterpiece would stand out, but that's how it should work. After a while people might realise that larger shots get more votes. Personally, I don't know why everybody doesn't take advantage of the maximum allowable size, but each to his own. Similarly, if someone enters a facetious entry -- such as an annoying whale tail, to misrepresent the theme -- then it isn't going to get many, if any, votes, especially if it is quite ugly and lacks anything which makes a good screenshot. So the voters police the rules.

Of course those who regularly flaunted any rules or the theme would not do well, as some members would choose to disqualify these shots when they come to vote. But sometimes it would bring out a gem of imagination and artistic interpretation which would become forum legend. Ian's tea towel may or may not fall into this category, but at least he should have the right to enter it.

I admit that I generally just skim the rules, looking for the theme, so when I actually read through the rules this month -- and saw how they were being enforced -- it surprised me how easily our meager rights can be eroded over time. I'm well aware of the irony of talking about rights here on NZFF, as I've said before that our normal societal rights don't apply here at all. One person's right to free speech is another's personal attack, but that's not the rights I'm talking about here. It's those that don't negatively impact on anyone, or the impact is so minimal that it isn't worth making a rule to remove that right.

If I thought this was just my opinion, then I'd let it go, but from the number of people who have inadvertently or otherwise broken the rules this month (25%), I suspect that it might be an issue.

I'm aware that Doug does a great job with the comp, and I don't want to take anything away from him. If I'm being too harsh, let me know.

Point taken Rob but would you enter a push bike in a Motor Raleigh or a car in a speed boat race I don't think so.
Maybe its time for someone else to have a go at running the screenshot comp as I seem to be getting to old and grumpy.
If there is anyone else out there who can put quite a few hours a month into organizing sponsors and running a well organized schedule of setting things up and getting things posted on time a the end of the month send me a PM.
