RAF type, wonder why its was brought in and what year, due lack of info I always thought it was what may have been left, ... maybe I could join the wings and get them bolt to the roof of my place ... advertising Aviation art cool.gif

Ian i found out a bit about the 3 hanger canberra :Built in preston in 1955/56 and served with # 88,14, 3 and 16 squadrons RAF .... anyway , it ended up at a scrap yard , and was sold to the Wigram museum . Shipped to NZ in April 1994 . Those wings under the trees belong to it.
No definite plans for restoration.

I do wonder they brought them in as a restoration project fix for the back hanger queen - maybe they were in a better condition 1994 .. probably not now sitting outside for so long maybe they should give them to me ... I still want an ejection seat - even for only a least/borrow for my PC seat and lazyboy ... least it would stay in a warm home !

Yes , the forward section is 100% complete (well the whole thing is complete ... just spread about), everything is still there . There is a story behind the purchase , but this isnt the place.
Its sad that the wings are left outside rotting , dosent seem to be "best practice" from a museum point of view ... i wonder what sort of value they would place on it if someone wanted to buy it ?
I think the Ashburton museum would love and look after it ... maybe exchange it for that Porterfield (which has RNZAF connections) they have.

That period the Museum was having enough problems were to put things , the closer , management of the historical grounds IE: the airfield course the storage of Canberra parts, very typically a lack of insight on behalf of council and govt departments.

Weird thing to come and its always said ... why was there no foresight. It come down to management.... to many outsiders destroying history .. or best to say have no understanding of its signiference.

"no understanding of its signiference." point in case .... to coin a legal term , the Andover!! my pet love .... one of only 2 (as far as Im aware ) complete airframes in the world ... and what do they do with it ... a playground for kids! That(Andover) is more important than the Canberra they have on display(ex RAAF),or the mustang ..which never flew in NZ,or the fake Beaver (ex crop duster...no RNZAF history) Dont get me wrong, they are great people ... but i do wonder at the the term "best practice " , something thrown around a lot by museum folk .

Hopefully with some outsider foresight and course some insiders may look - nudge and make some to think about it winkyy.gif be nice to get the important artifacts covered for that is what museum means - took many years for your Andover
