Using fsearthtiles to download and inkscape to create water and land masks. takes a long time coz google keeps being big brother and stopping the leech. Google also changes the version on the server which means when it changes you have to change the version too which is hard to keep up with. I happened to do most of my downloading last year at a time when Google was, let's just say, more generous with their imagery. Maybe this change occured when the new GeoEye came about.

Cheers,

Kelvin

Time to deal with this issue from the admin perspective, I guess.
Using these tools to download Google images breaches their conditions of use. This makes any discussion of this against the forum rules. This is for the protection of the forum in general -- we can't afford to get a reputation as the place to talk about illegal activities -- but also to protect individual members from publicly admitting their breach of intellectual property rights etc, and therefore leaving themselves open to legal action.

Incidentally, it also protects the rights of those who use imagery which they are entitled to use -- such as me:)

Scuse me but how on earth can you have lots of AI, amazing plane textures, amazing ground textures, amazing 'clouds' and just fantastic flightsim quality and get up to 30-120FPS!!!!!? I realize theres no autogen but I keep autogen at 'normal' and most of my 'sliders' in the mid zone and still only get 5 to 10 FPS
You must have some sort of super computer or very clever with tweaking etc cos I brought a pretty reasonable comp, Dell XPS M1730 'Gaming' laptop especially for FS and still get crappy as FPS. Any hints?

Try a Core I7 920 with 6gb of RAM and a Geforce 285 with 1 GB of Video RAM - CPU overclocked to 3.5ghz. also have a Sata2 striped hard drive config to tweak hdd performance a little further (really just for load times) and Some minor tweaking but not outside the usual tweaks known to man.

So in other words you built your own 'super' computer....wow thats way out of my league
I gues I will have to stick with my crappy 5FPS but thanks for the advice anyway

Hi Kelvin, nice shots dude.
I noticed you are uploading your images to FSfiles.org. Can anyone post here? Nice resolution.

Cheers,
Matt

Gidday Matt,

Am sick at the mo got some sort of stomach bug. Answer to your question, yup, you can upload to fsfiles. you will see in the screenshot forum a post by me with instructions on how to upload. It's so easy maybe more people will upload their shots, or at least make it easier.

P.S. Let me know what you have in mind. One thing that would be pretty descent would be an Auckland FSX lan party perhaps. i'll be back after my bug clears.

Yeah that would be cool, I would have at least 3 other guys keen on something like that.
I will post some pics soon to show you where I am up to with my Hamilton stuff. Could you possibly post a pic of TOP DOWN showing what total area you have covered?

Cheers,
Matt

It's a bit patchy on the outskirts but will get a shot done soon.
