My FS10 finaly arived yesterday morning!

So you have all seen the nice screenies posted around the fourms, but what if you have a "low spec" machine then what should you expect?

Heres a small colection of screenies I took today, these are before tweaking alot of things yet the twicking hasnt improved performce at all so yeah this is what I got lol

My system specs are:
Pentium4 2.4ghz
768mb RAM
256mb 5600 (I reinstalled driver version 9.1 cos the older one was really bed perfomce in fsx)

I have fs10 installed on my new 150gb h/drive, and thats all thats on there! (I have done a defrag too)

I loaded up the 744 at yssy to have a quick look and t/o.




Then I was amazed to see they had a New Zealand heli included



Heres what I saw when checking out chc.


I took of from nzwg and flew over the porthills to land in littleton harbour.


WOW they put "little quail island" in!


just as I touched down it showed this on the screen for about 43seconds (yeah I counted lol) and then it started moving again and I slowed down and stoped.



I was dieing to see this new glass cockpit so loaded up the C172 at NZWG.




I was really anoyed with this as my fps were averaging FOUR and I could hardly fly the thing, and moving my head around in the vc was impossible cos it would move in largeing jerky action

Thats all I have to share now.

WARNING!! FSX is NOT "stutter less" I repeat: IT IS NOT I have been haveing regular stuuters in it for every flight.

So yes I got what I expected with fsx performace wise lol I actuly got better fps in the demo on my old 1ghz pc

Oh and theres no landing shots here cos its impossible to land with stutters and 4frames per second


Ill keep doing tweaks and repot back in this thread if I get better performace(i think im getting better fps than in fs9 thow) ....

Well Jimmy, if anything, the new camera angles in FSX sure do look neat!

I hope you are able to get some better FPS out of it as time goes by.

Good to see your copy of FS10 arrived, and it looks ok from what I can see, just your frames are a little bit low.

Try turning off the autogen altogether Jimmy, and you will see your framerates improve a fair bit. Although even when it says you have 30fps or more or more it still stutters badly - weird huh?

It doesn't seem to matter what you have on or off, or how many fps you manage to achieve, it will still stutter. Bizarrely I have found that I get better frame rates using VC rather than 2D cockpits - again, doesn't make any sense at all.

I'm also finding that it really struggles to keep up with drawing the textures on your aircraft unless you are looking at it pretty much straight on or side on. As soon as you try and rotate your exterior view it blurs them badly. They only seem to sharpen up again when you look at it square on.

I have spent a fair amount of time tweaking and testing with the end result being that you can get it flyable... sometimes... but you can only achieve smooth flight with clear skies and autogen/traffic etc all turned off. Pretty much what we all suspected after trying the demo I guess, so no surprises.

Oh, and by the way, if you work out how to get the wing floats down on the Goose, please let me know how - although I am beginning to suspect that Microsoft forgot to enable them

I take it back about the floats on the Goose - seems you just have to assign a key to get them working

What I have found today though is that anisitropic filtering (or however you spell it!), rather than bilinear or trilinear, has made all my aircraft textures pop into beautiful sharp detail. Also found with this setting that I can now turn on the water effects to mid 2.0 without any frame rate hit.

Still have to have autogen off completely - which makes all the airports have no buildings, so it is still a long way from being good.

And I still get the stutters

I read somewhere that the lowest settings on FSX were like the highest in FS9. Is this correct from what you guys are finding? If so it would seem that our expectations that FSX will run on mid to high settings are a bit far fetched, and perhaps the game is 'future-proofed'.

Flight Sim has be be one of the few games where 16 - 20 FPS is usually perfectly acceptable (it's the dreaded stutters that give most problems), however many players coming from other games (First Person Shooter ones mainly) shudder at not getting 85 or more fps, and they come into the FS world with an unreasonable expectation of what will work acceptably. Is this a fair comment?

Unfortunately the next release of IL2 ([IL2 Sturmovik 1946) is out 24 November and the online servers will be updated to that. I'll most likely spend any gaming money pre-xmas on that.

i totally agree. default flight sim is set to 20fps, whereas if you gave a FPS gamer that frame rate, they'd have a heart attack.

FSX is certainly sluggish. i did learn something about frame rates- i got higher framerates with full aircraft and graphics detail, antialiasing and antistropic filtering at 1280x1024x32 and little world detail (like 15), compared to medium high graphics with more buildings and autogen at 1024x768x16 (like 12 fps). certainly not what i'm used to from other games. sounds like i need more processor grunt... i'm going to keep fiddling around with the settings over the next few weeks to get more frames.

Well, that time has come.

So, heres how its going around nine mounths on..

Doing a CD swap with Andrew (im getting that dvd to you mate, eventuly ) he has sent me FSX SP1.

So I installed it, no perforamce increase so said "stuff it", later I tried again of course, by witch time I had restarted my pc, and things were alot better, not a major perforamce increase, the main increase will be from my new mobo CPU and going to AGP 8X and new graphics card at the start of the year, so things have been slowly building up.

So I installed IVAP for FSX and did my first online FSX flight:

NZWN-NZCH of course, in good ol Learjet 45, is prety nice now, unlike some of the newer aircraft the learjet 45 has been with us since FS98, and the learjet 35 goes back even furthur!

I conected to IVAO and was very impressed with the new IVAP, there are improvments even in just the flightplan, alowing things like a 2nd alternate.. As I mentioned in anothor thread today the way it does multiplayer session thingy is very good now too.

I have installed the 75m mesh, real new zealand wellington and heaths christchuch, so lets get on with it ae...

frames take a bit of a hit during climbout looking back, understandable thow as we have both the awsomely detailed airport and CBD there, and I have autogen at MAX too!



The aircraft actuly makes shadows on other parts of the aircraft, now that is kool.



Seems ms are starting to get the NZZC waypoint names correct. Here we are tracking direct to GOOSE, I always fly the GOOSE DCT KARSA V306 CH route, its a standard route (or not so standard when the memory doesn't work so well, not of course that I remember such things as routes, that woudl just be obsesive and sad, woudln't it ).



Yup that says 42 Frames Per Second!



I'm really not impressed with how the mesh and ground textures look, the Kiakoras are one of the best things on this route, eathier way they always look spectacular, so im really dispointed with how they look here, reminds me more of rolling sand hills in a baren desert that someone has splashed a bit of blech over, here they are in fs9, same 75m mesh and I don't have the landclass installed in eathier fsx or fs9:



ah well, moving on..













A bit of trouble with the photoreal bluries, CPU useage is now at 100percent (so btoh cores) yet still blury, I did a scenery refresh but jsut blured up again, ians given me some advice thow so im sorting it out.

I found that I get about 5-10 more fps with the fps unlocked strangely!

My specs are now:

3.2ghz Pentium D
1gb DDR RAM
160GB harddrives for fs9 and 10 and 40GB as primary drive for windows (goodness knows when the last degfrag was, at least 5 mounths ago..)

Geforce 7600GS 256mb at AGP8X now, yay!
450W "golden" brand PSU.

Next is to upgrade the RAM to 2gbs.

Well im off for a VFR flight in the NZCH tower zone now with FS10, so gota go

OK looking at your specs and then mine.. It's tempting. Anyone have any ideas how my comp would go? Most of my flying is city-city in large airliners- I don't think that will help my fps..
