Today i downloaded ALL the freeware stuff(Had most of it anyway) on the old Alphasim site....and i was thinking.......these guys (Phil Perot) and his team, where providing us simmers, with (at the time) ground breaking stuff.

I think some of there stuff is still better than anything you can get at a $5.00 sale today............who else has done any of the following worth getting (see shots)...........NO ONE.(as far as i know)

These guys are going to slip into oblivion and we wont even notice....yes, they are still here in another guise......but the history has gone.

I dont give two hoots about rivet counters who dedicate their lives to ...."this is too small, or thats too big"...get a life you plonkers......Alphasim did fall short in some areas but they also set the benchmark for a great hobby.....Im going to miss them, ........good on you Phil

Yep, nice ones Marty - some great heavy iron & other classics in there. But wait - did I see a hint of green in 1 of those shots!!?!

Nice tribute Marty.
I have most of the AS stuff too, I can remember the kick you'd get when opening up one of their models and having a good look around.
Always a reward there, if only to see how that widget fitted, or hung off, an aeroplane.
AS began to lose their way the day they produced That Cessna...

No matter, they are writ large in history.
As their models fade gracefully away, gutted and stripped versions find their way into my AI fleet.

Gads I am waxing eloquent this AM, must've been the eclipse last night...

Hey Marty , you recall the the bare metal finish C141 s , when they first arrived in CHCH they parked on the International ramp , this was long before airbridges , I do like the Scimitar , the Arado196 would look great beside my Graf Spee ,

Thanks AB They sure have churned out some product....i still have discs full of their stuff for FS98....and some on 3.5 floppys, i just cant part with it.

Charl , you "wax" very well. And i agree, around about the 170 Cessna period, things started going in all directions.....and sadley, later, some real good looking projects never saw the sky ( Jaguar)
I think their last major effort was the Islander, after a troubled birth.

Thanks Ian, yes i do remember the shinny 141's (A models) then we saw the first of the longer versions and all the paint schemes (Euro 1, grey and white, grey) big smokey, noisey birds.As they taxied off the ramp, they seemed to need almost T/O power to get around the corner, and then ate up most of the runway.
The Scimitar is a sweety i agree.

Re the "rivet counter" comment in this post....it isnt refering to anyone on this forum....relates to some reviews Ive read elsewhere over the years. Geez, if you dont like a product...dont buy it....anyway, alls good.
