Without checking my own PC ... is this the Real Air or the Just Flight ... or the ...?

After doing some video recording of the A2A Spit, I had to pop back into the Real Air one to check some things out. Though the whole add-on appears a TINY bit "arcade-ish" now (by comparison), the exterior models of the Real Air are superb and the sound is pretty good. Being a bit "easier" ... it can be a load more "fun" if you just want to whizz about, being a bit of a hooligan!

With luck, Real Ar may start pricing their product pretty aggressively to compete with A2A, so a whole load more people may get cheap Spits!

Up until 2 or 3 days ago, I still thought the RA Spit was the bees knees!

Real Air....I think "arcade-ish" is a little harsh ....i know what you mean...but "arcade-ish"...no dry.gif . Just depends on how deep you want to immerse yourself i guess.

Re the bees knees...did you know bees dont have ears....and have 5 eyes....just thought I'd throw that in for no reason at all really winkyy.gif

I agree. Drat - I didn't quite mean it to come out like that ... so edited my original ... though wondering whether "arcade-ish" is the right word altogether ... probably NOT!

I know what you mean my little lingerie gourmet.......some folks would say"arcade-ish".....by comparison with the new one.
You know, we simmers really are a spoilt bunch.......all these things thrown at us...buy them or freeware....as soon as something percived to be better, than whatever came before (are you still with me) comes along, out go the old toys laugh.gif

Ive been picking up a few of those old toys lately.

I do hope so, I still haven't got one smile.gif Currently (7 feb) realair is 29 euros which is about $48 NZD, and accusim is 49.98 USD which is about 61 NZD, so the realair is already 20% off the accusim price. What was the Realair price a week ago - have they dropped it here ?

I've already mentally censored the amount I paid for the A2A Spit! If you're going A2A, make sure you get the Accusim add-on as well.

According to most reports, one of the charms of the Spitfire was it's relative 'easiness' to fly. Youngsters were going operational on these things with less flight hours than most '150' students. Not only had they to master basic flying techniques, they had to learn to fight it, successfully - or not. My point is, it's not 'how many things are clickable'? Can much, if any, of this be done with your head up and swivelling - a requirement when flying amongst those guys with the maltese cross. This is a 'heads up' plane asking to be pushed to the edge of its envelope - sort of a 'Show me what you got, Mr Pilot' kind of plane.

Thats why A2A provide its own unique controller Input configurator so you can easily asign important systems to buttons on your controller. Systems that arent modeled in FSX nomally so that when you load the spity up all those assignments are loaded up with it. It works very well. Now you can assign a trim pot to rudder trim, something you cant do with out the full version of fsupic. I have also slaved a botton to operate the engine primer so that when your cranking her over you can keep priming. Heaps of other controlls can be asigned aswell so like you said, your eye's can be looking out the canopy, not down around your feet fumbling around with a mouse.

I'm lucky enough to have a controller bristling with pots, sliders, rotaries (the Saitek X-52) so throttle, pitch, mixture and trim are all on my left hand controller. At least it's the same side of the cockpit as the real Spit laugh.gif. All I need to do is map the radiator to something (haven't bothered up until now) and I'll have pretty well everything available without taking my eyes off the HUN.

The more common flaps/gear functions I leave to the keyboard, as I don't want to be hitting those in the middle of some "fancy" manouevre. Similarly, my parking brake is set to a relatively hard to find button on the base of the RHS controller (joystick in my case). All of these stay the same for all my FSX prop aircraft, so it's become second nature.

The only annoyance in the A2A Spit for me is that the elevator trim is *very* slow (tiny increments) which is hopeless for drastic changes in trim - as in when flaps come down. Similarly, the rudder trim is painfully slow - and you need to scroll away from front view to see what it's doing.

@Andrew - I must have a go at your primer suggestion - as the manual specifically states that you should be giving priming as you press the start button. I think that's why they made that starter "sticky" <??>.

X-52 for me also, i use the slider on the side of the throttle for the radiator, what are you using for the elevator trim, i use the smaller wheel of the 2 and I find it over sensitive for every plane and I have to have a huge deadzone on the fsx controller setup or it stuffs up my altitude hold with all autopilot systems, and not only that I cannot engage an ALT Hold function unless the trim pot is in neutral position. What do you use for elevator trim in other aircraft? Would love to hear you thoughts on this matter.

Trim in FS is a laugh but after some chasing, the elevator steadies. Haven't found any model torquey enough to require rudder trim but've been told that the reallife Merlin needed all you had.

I use the little knurled wheel (on the throttle) for elevator trim. I used to have the press/click function of that wheel set to "reset trim" but found it was too easy to press it by accident. Keyboard trim is a lot coarser, so I only use the wheel for making tiny adjustments. I don't seem to get any problems with AP. However - I have a registered copy of FSUIPC and that has a function to do with diengaging trim when AP is engaged.

My slider is currently set to reverse thrust, but it's a bit temperamental. I might map the radiator to one of the throttle POV hats, as I'd prefer a definite staged "click" for each radiator position. I wouldn't know where I was if it were on the slider.

My big rotary is set to prop pitch, with the smaller one set for mixture.

I wonder whether the Corsairs ("Ensign Killers") also had a rudder "problem" - associated with the tremendous torque of that engine.

In the A2A Spit (not so much in the RealAir one) I've found I have to be really quite gentle in advancing the throttle on take-off. Too much too quickly and you become a "dead Ensign" blink.gif

Too many FS models allow you to just push the throttle right to the stops without penalising you in any way. I suppose it's OK to do it in an Su-27 Flanker though winkyy.gif. I've seen Kvotchur display the Su-27 a number of times ... he just jams it to fully open for the whole routine - controlling airspeed only by attitude. Awesome!

I use #### all power on take off, in fact, I use #### all power throughout all my flights so I dont use much rudder on take off. Its very easy to fly, dont forget that in the sim, you dont have the 'feel' of the aeroplane moving around you so your using visual and audio only.

Good idea using one of the hat switches for trim, only prob is I use them all for panning, moving around and camera views using EZdok camera addon. When i finaly get a TrackIR set i will have a spare hat switch as a trim device. Cool

The Blue recons were divided buy grey and desert pink , even low level tactical had a variety schemes to keep them out off trouble .
