A chilled bottle of Chardonnay and fresh mouse batteries call for another in this, what may seem for some, unending stream of 'visual delights' . A remembrance of Yossarian and the rest of Joe Heller's great characters - especially Nately's .

Excellent...watched a doco on the making of the movie the other day...the price of war-surplus Mitchells suddenly shot up, when they started to assemble the bomber fleet.
They had to use all sorts of subterfuge and cut-outs to disguise the buy.
Great book, surprisingly good movie.

Watched the movie years ago , a book i brought on lay-buy when is was 11 , The history of Aviation has a photo of LUSICOUS LULU over the Gulf of California during the filming of Catch 22 , book was published in 1972 . Nice Screen Dave

Nope, Grasshoppa ... book came out in 1961. I think I read it in the late sixties - way before the film (which I didn't think was any way near as good as the book, BTW).

I loved Major-Major - who was always "out when he was in" and "in when he was out". Great book!

Adam , little mix up , I brought a book 'The history of Aviation' , very plush and expensive , well for me , 14.95 in 1972 , has this gorgeous colour plate from the movie 'Catch22'

If you ever see the book in your local Op Shop, then grab it ... it's brilliant. Many aspects of the book (as is often the case) just can't translate to film. If I can find my copy somewhere - if I didn't give it to my local Op Shop, that is I'll mail it you you.

I'll keep my eyeballs out for it , when i saw the movie , i sorta really did not understand it till it near ending , its strange not to see in the local bargin shops , another place i ll look for it , cheers matey.

Tom Clancy is the very bottom off my list , my authors are Roger Freeman , Jerry Scutts , Don Logan , David Legg , and the list gos on , history and archive type books . Thanks for the thought anyway

One of my all time favorite movie moments, from "Catch 22". Two nurses, yakking away as they're taking care of a patient - dates, hairdo's etc. One takes down an empty IV bag while the other unhooks a Foley catheter bag full of urine. The urine is passed to the partner who, never missing a word, blythely hangs it on the IV stand and starts the flow. Watch the General's his blonde bombshell aide's eyes as they prepare to present a medal to a naked Yossarian - not completely naked, he's wearing his cap so as not to be out of uniform.

Dang! (as they say) ... I'm going to have to rent this movie out! Good old memory loss means it'll be like watching a new film

And that scene is straight out of the book - 'the soldier in white' I think he was known as. Dang, now I want to read it again !

:-) funny, we were just discussing exactly that scene the other day - was it with you Ian or was it on one of my other hospital vists? - I seem to be spending too much time in there lately.
