I have heard that with a few simple mods the textures from the PC-9 will fit the Texan II.

Texture mods, no matter how simple, are a skill I've yet to learn smile.gif .

I don't think its too complicated, I think the exterior models are the same anyway.

Interestingly the T-6 Texan may end up in RNZAF service..they are lookng at the Pilatus PC-9/21, Raytheon T-6, Tucano & others.

How are they going to manage that with no combat wing?

Advanced and high speed training for all pilots partly replacing King Airs....there are a few Air Forces out there with turboprop training aircraft and no jet combat aircraft (ie Irish Air Corps)

they are not combat aircraft,..id say more for to keep up the flight crews flying hours which is something they have been struggling with for quite some time..

With Australia building them , the PC9 as with the Hawk , maybe follow same as with the CT4 , would it be a least situation .

...ahh but the Aussies are already looking for a replacement for PC-9 ..they would have had 30 years service by 2017..with the CT-4F as possible lead in to the replacement, which will probably be the PC-21 or T-6.

The CT-4F has a similar instrument layout to the T-6...so in an ideal world the RAAF replace the PC-9s with CT-4Fs and T-6 Texans and the RNZAF follows with CT-4Fs and T-6s as well.

Little silly replacing a PC9 for a T6 , after all practically this , the same aircraft , with the PC12 not being far away from the original design so again Oz will be licensed to build and last i heard the CT-4 s were not all that favorable with the RAAF but off course was the very early variant , instrument layout is an easy retrofit , guess it depends on costing .

Yeah the T-6 is based on the PC-9 but is basically a new aeroplane.... big difference is that its got quite a bit more power, FADEC, Glass Cockpit, pressurised and in full scale production for the USAF, US Navy, Israeli, Canadian, Greek, Iraqi and Morrocan Air Forces..me say the T-6 will be a finalist with the PC-21 for any RAAF order.

Yep! Still have that issue of Air International somewhere...the Brits basically did what the Americans did...they converted an existing airframe so much that (this time the Tucano) that is almost a totaly new aeroplane..and costing so much more than the orginal design! Pity the A-20 and/or Firecracker didn't come to anything. IIRC the Tucano decision was purely politcal as they needed jobs in Belfast..the PC-9 was the choice of the RAF.

The RAF is also looking at replacing the Tucano with the PC-21 been a contender (although they may update the remaining Tucanos)

The RAAF is also looking at an attack version of the T-6...

Bloody proud off ya .. smile.gif why is it our history books seem to last longer than the aeroplane's

I think as far as trainer/FAC type it will be a ways off yet in NZ , if they cannot organize a simple sale of the A4/AM fleet , RAAF already has a set agenda due to politics and requirements , going to be interesting what the final call will be .
