The Coastguard are visiting Milford Sound in their never before seen, and never likely to be seen CL-130.

The floats are all very well, but taking off is a nightmare blink.gif . It took me half of Milford Sound to get off the water. Gets stuck around 95knts and takes as long as it did to get to 95 as it does to get from 95 to 120 whet you can actually get airborne.

Taxing out of the port.

Thought I'd drop in on a Cruise ship at the end of the Sound.

Just as a side thought, lately I have been unable to open the rear door. The ramp lowers fine but I cant open the other half. Any ideas?

On opening the rear , there is a pause between upper lower and ramp .

A technique with light aircraft, especially on glassy water with lots of suction, is to roll on to the left float after your on the step. Friction/drag is reduced hopefully shortening your takeoff run - might not work on a 130 though. Experiment with your flap settings - if it feels right, full deployment will often pop it loose from the water but be sure to partially raise the flaps ASAP biggrin.gif .

Yea, flaps are the key in this aircraft, only need about 2 notches but you'll make it past 95 knts using them.
