NZFF

As I said I would do, I have done my first International flight in the CS 767.

It was a relatively pain free flight, although I had the seat belt sign on in a hurry about half way across, hit 80 knt crosswind. There was quite a bit of turbulence until I descended out of it.

Preflight is the most time consuming part of it all, although I can get the time between cold and dark to taxi down to about 30 mins, which is alright when you have to create an flightplan, etc, etc.

The weather was beautiful in Christchurch, blue skies all around, perfect for flying.

Got a bit bumpy over the dessert alps, awfully dry for winter. Really need to think about getting VLC.



Because I was flying west-ish, the sun took forever to set, even at 8x speed.



Descending into Brisbane.



On Approach. Yes I know those lights are supposed to be two white/two red, but it is the camera position it goes on, not the aircraft position.
I also found a new light texture thingy yesterday, those lights have the bloom turned off. I reckon it looks great.



And taxiing in to Brisbane International. This is the freeware scenery, Ants Brisbane I think. It's really great because it doesn't kill your frames.

Nice one Conner, I purchased the same aircraft in the recent sale and have been learning the ropes too.

I have a similar set of screens but from Auckland to Wellington, i'll post them up when I get some time.

I quite enjoy the cold and dark start up and shut down at the other end. I'm just starting to get my head around programing FMC etc.

Thanks. I know what you mean by "the ropes." It was the autopilot that has taken me ages to get my head around. Lots of unexpected dives, turns, etc. Keeps the passengers on their toes.

Thats cheating I used to do a NZAA or NZCH to YMML flight every night when I was learning the systems. Its a long way to fly to find out that the decent point didn't work If you start by 6pm you finish by 9pm.

Don't take as a criticism on yourself though Connor. These are really nice shots, of a flight I've simmed many times myself- at 1x speed lol

Nice pics, but "8x speed" ???!!!! Come on, you can't do that - where's "as real as it gets" lol. I did a long haul overnight on Vatsim sleeping very lightly with the comms volume up in case I get asked by ATC to respond to something - wife wasn't home that night. I bet Alister's done similar trips, even during the day with the volume up while working in the garden...

Done a real time from Anchorage to San Diego in the PBY damn it was hard to stay awake, and not to mention the saddle sores.

I think quite the opposite. Definitely the prettiest 767 out there, and there is a winglets model, I often fly it, but not on this flight. Can't beat the sale price, 9.99

Yeah well, not a lot happens at FL340 over the Tazzy. Especcially when you've got school the next day, sitting up late isn't generally a good idea.

I feel no shame. Real time in a PBY? I did a real time flight from Christchurch to Blenhiem and that was long enough. Was in a Nor'wester though.

I take my original comment back. I think it's just the light shining off your nose that makes it look the way it does. I've been to the Captain Sim page and it all looks normal on there

My comments were made in jest too btw ... like Alister I am a fan of heavy metal and stoked to see pics of long haul flights. How you get from A to B is entirely your own business, for me the pleasure comes in finding the destination and landing successfully after all the steps it takes to get to the right approach height, lining up the ILS getting nav frequencies right etc. It's just a shame that sometimes getting there takes hours lol.

That's exactly the way I see it. Anyone can sit for 3, 4, however many hours the flight takes, doing nothing but answering ATC calls, but it takes a bit of extra effort to land, ILS aproach, etc.

You could say that, if you are plugged into a gps or fmc.
Try some dead reckoning with just a compass, stop watch and a slide computer over a 4-6 hour flight real time WX, the "anyone" will turn into "not many" now that is flying, never boring

Haha.. hey, imagine how cool it would be to have a multi-crew sim setup for an old steam-gauge air-ship with a navigator using a sextant and the true to life 3d sky view with stars and sun in proper positions for reference.
