Off all the books i losted , was a 30 hardcover photo review and study of the Hunter single seat prototype , even by today,s standards the black and white photo's were stunning - the aircraft appeared to be all white but recall the type was the RAF standard pale blue for test aircraft .

last night i had a little test with my point to point 5 point Mirage , 3.5 minutes at Alt from Timaru to CHCH .. talk about feeling like Chuck Yeager !

Excellent pic Marty - you're lucky in NZ to have the real thing flying around - must be awesome. In Queensland we have two non flying real Hunters in the Queensland Air Museum (about 30 minutes drive from my abode) - they have a website if anyone is interested.

Besides being the most classic jet fighter shape I can imagine my interest is further aroused by having worked at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport with a guy whose claim to fame is having successfully dead stick landed a Hunter while flying with the RAF - descending under radar guidance through 8/8s cloud - only to be court marshalled for not banging out! He had lots of good stories of training sorties to Germany for competitive flying against the German Air Force as well - what a dull life some of us lead.

Thanks very much for the comment Lapun .......i agree, the hunter is just magic, no matter which way you look at it, its a classic. I really love all those 50's Brit jets.
Like you, Ive met some people with amazing things to relate, and most , if not all are very modest about what they did.....my life is indeed dull .

The reason for the black and white is because , at the moment, thats all i can see(past 12 hours)....well, shades of gray with a little colour....just part of whats been going on...but it will pass.
The brain is funny old thing......i may have to get Doug to rebuild mine in the mean time , Ive always liked black and white pics.

Brains are not only funny, but extremely flexible - and some talented people (as Olderndirt mentioned) can capture more in B&W than can colour buffs - this spell of shades of grey could be the golden opportunity for a new and challenging chapter in monthly prize shots - but enough dreaming.

I was thinking of my dull life - anyone living in Christchurch hardly qualifies for that description.

Thats true dave, the black and whites seem to have more depth, or something....i might stick with it for a while.

One area that seems to mis- interpret black and whites are people , you study the photo's of 18-23 year old's in either dress uniform or combat , especially bomber crews , they appear or look to be 10 to 15 years older , a lot has to do with pride and dress , haircut off the day . It just something i try and compare , could also be thought and fear that makes them look old .

Ive seen similar photos Ian, i have just read a book called "i flew for the fuhrer" by Heinz Knoke...he flew 109's. There is a photo of him in 1941....and another taken in 44, and he looks as if he has aged 20 years.
