C-17 from Woodbourne to McMurdo

Well I finally bought some much needed scenery, VLC ( I know Ian took my time... ), and pretty much all the Realnz scenery areas (..yes Ian..I KNOW biggrin.gif ,...I can finally take part in some MP action without dissapearing below you lot looking up ye skirts haha),..and to top it off I even talked the old man into buying some scenery so got AntarcticaX from Aerosoft...whole continent with a few well detailed areas. AntarcticaX is not a slap you in the face " holy cr@p thats awesome " kind of scenery..its more subtle with a complete lack of those painfully terrible patchwork repeating tile ground covers,..instead you get a completely rendered Antarctica with neat plowed ice runways and some nicely detailed scenery areas which I have not really even begun to explore ...more pics to come though..
The VLC is ,..well its freakin amazing completely transforming my NZ into a country I now want to re discover with renewed enthusiasm thumbup1.gif , and the RealNZ Sceneries ... SUPERB !!..I love them all but Woodbourne and Tauranga have now become my new FSX homes,..thats when Im not chasing the trucks down the North Western Motorway in Auckland at night time....LOVE IT !!!,..have also taken to doing daily SeeBee Air flights " a shower of spray and we're away ", from Mechanics Bay with an imaginary Fred Ladd in the pilots seat smile.gif with the occasional naughty fglight under the Harbour bridge ha. Anyway this thread is just a couple pics (and not very good ones ) of a quick flight from Woodbourne to McMurdo...enjoy ...or at least pretend to blink.gif ..

Setting up for takeoff NZWB..

Airborne at last...really quick repaint of Area51 excellent C-17 into LC-130 Livery..if anyone wants it I might upload it..

Not very exciting,..having a coffee and a inflight sarnie..

Coffee had usual effect,..off to the dunnie then a leg stretch..

Wing shot ,.. blink.gif

Arrived 4 hours after departing NZWB , quick overfly McMurdo to check runway area..

On ramp at McMurdo,..(sorry no approach pics,...another day man)..

More exiting Antarctica shots to come..

Another vote for Aerosoft's Antarctica X. It's a stunning piece of work, full of detail, atmosphere, craftsmanship and interesting sights.

I haven't done NZ to McMurdo yet (although I have done the other way from as close as you can get to the pole). Great screens! clapping.gif

I think (and im sure il be corrected ..) set climb power and climb maintaining 180KIAS indicated youl have to reduce your VSI gradually so by around 28,000ft you VSI will be around 500-700ft per min, and at 28,650 ( max cruise alt c-130E/H) your ground speed will be around 320 KIAS ( dont forget to reset your baro pressure ( B key ) at 18,000ft lol.

Standard Climbout speeds:
180 KIAS to 10000 ft
170 KIAS to 15000 ft
160 KIAS to 25000 ft
Climbout to 10000 ft= 1500 FPM
Climbout From 10000 ft and above= 1000 to 1200

Cruise speed:
MSL to 18000 ft=Up to 250 KIAS
18000 ft and up= Up to 225 KIAS

Adrian,

I know this thread is about two years old, but did you ever upload this repaint for public use? I stumbled across this thread on an internet search for Area 51 C-17 repaints.

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

Just as a quick heads up for this resurrected thread, there are now a number of really good third-party freeware addons for AntarcticaX:

LimeSim - AntarcticaX Freeware

Sascha has said he still plans an official update at some point as well.
