I had the reverse situation: to look at some FSX planes for one reason or another, I installed a vanilla FSX on the kids' games machine.
I never "used" FSX, it was just there, in case.

Nothing stopping you running a basic FS9 with some quick texture enhancements dropped in, to produce great screens.
Most of the best FS9 models have issues in FSX, so why bother?
And FS9 has a vast portfolio of great planes as you know, you might never get to the end of 'em.
And at least they will display properly!
Signed
Happy FS9.5 Camper, and flightsim Luddite.

Funny you mention FS9, I have just reinstalled fs9 this past couple of weeks for the purpose of installing all the Calclassic scenery. Just deciding what plane to fly around in, probably CS707.

Cool shots anyway.

Thanks Kahu, i will put the old fs9 back in....as Charl said...a universe of addons for it. When i compare some of my old fs9 screens with some of my fsx ones , its hard to tell the good ones apart.

Yes definitely. Given the right lighting, view distance etc FS9.5 can hold its own with its younger hi-res sibling.
And of course, it has the planes.
Now if I can just get my CS Yak and F104 to register themselves...

Something I have been doing: multiple FS9 installs (I'm not sure you can do this with FSX).
When I did the NZ postcards thread, I created a NZ-specific sim with South Pacific flavours.
{Wow: 18,000 views, those search bots seem to have been busy in the last 16 months!}
This is quite different from my European sim - happily I saved it in one piece, and when I fly NZ I simply start up that sim and have everything as I want.
Lots of Calclassic simmers have a 1950's or so sim with custom AI and scenery.
All it takes is some disk space...

Had a similar problem with my 707, if you lose the order number your stuffed....it was my order history that saved the day in the end. I had also changed email accounts and added to the red tape.
