I lied!!!

... have to "make do" with the Mustang till my dream bird comes along ...











Just to add to my misery, I got the Accusim model ... which means I've gone through a dozen starter motors already!

The P-51D is definitely up to the usual A2A/WOP3 standard ... ie. *Amazing*.

How does it compare to the "Little Friends" P-51? Better ... much better ... but that may be because I like the Accusim enhancements (I know Marty will hate them ). Both exterior models are superb, though I think the A2A cockpit is a shade better (but both good) ... but A2A is streets ahead in modelling the *systems* (hydraulics, electrics etc.).

Now we need to get Jankees to do us some repaints ....

Over at SOH they have the demo video from A2A where everything on a P51 is raised/lowered, pushed/pulled, clicked or otherwise diddled with. Impressive, then along comes John Terrell with a series of reminder shots of his Warbirdsim model - still the best IMHO but it's a tough choice.

I have both , least the base variant of the WBS 51 so in a MP we i wont caught out

Not the spinner so much but none of them looks like a MkV Spitfire - per your thread title .

Hmmmm ... remove the lower intake, round off the tailfin and wingtips, de-bubble the canopy... and we're nearly there!

One thing I do like about the Mustang - separate trims for elevator, rudder and aileron. I read that Spitfire pilots said that it need "flying all the time" - that it was very difficult to trim and fly "hands-off". With the P-51 having to do long escort duties, being able to trim properly must have been a blessing.

I'm always amazed at the size of the Mustang prop - it's *huge* (as the actress said to the bishop)! Both in FS and Real Life. Looks like a propeller with an aircraft stuck onto it, if you see what I mean!

I suppose it's all down to horsepower and revs. The "Thundermustang" has an embarrassingly small prop - seems totally out of scale - as (I think) it has a very high-revving engine.

Adamski, the MT prop on the Thunder Mustang was designed for the Falconer V12 and gearbox, it does turn faster than a merlin on the P-51, but the prop is appropriate to the Thunder Mustang.
