Came upon this place by chance during my trip around Iceland (which has good free OrbX scenery in P3D2). It's called Isafjord, or at least that's what I call it (BIIS), and it has a sheer valley wall at one end of the runway and a mountain at the other end. I don't know what they drink in Iceland but I think they'd had too much when they built this runway.

The first pic shows arrival at the fjord from the south, - notice the town lights courtesy of OrbX Global and the runway down on the right. Some people have had problems with these lights but for me they work fine and look great. It all looks a bit dark because it's winter and it's Iceland, so it's dark most of the time.

The next one shows my approach, having turned round in the mouth of the fjord. Notice the high quality of the default aircraft models, - this is the Carenado Bonanza. I love it because it's easy to fly and has an idiotproof autopilot.

Finally, my rather wobbly flare, having turned the requisite twenty degrees from the approach. Notice the runway lights, - not sure if FSX has these since I haven't used it since getting P3D2. Also, the landing light illuminates the runway. The good people of Isafjord have by this time turned off their lights, no doubt to better observe the spectacle of my landing.

The rest of the landing was uneventful other than the runway excursion and loss of the left main gear which I put down to Loss of Spatial Awareness due to Distraction at Critical Phase of Flight caused by Unintuitive Screen Capture Software. angry.gif

Seems to me Iceland is a white out for the screenie comp but i'm sure you could find a near suitable choice winkyy.gif

Thanks for the reply. It's awesome how you reply to almost everyone smile.gif.

I'm not trying to win a screenie comp but here's the same place in summer, just for comparison. The water is meant for Auckland so it might seem a bit startling in this setting. The cloud reflections are something Lockheed Martin will need to get rid of at some point. I think it's interesting to compare the winter pics with the summer ones, - the contrast seems about right, - the winter pics make me want to put my duffle coat on.

This is global scenery too, not detailed stuff like OrbX have done in North Island etc, so in my opinion it's pretty good and a jolly sight better than default FSX. Definitely flyable around. This approach is actually a lot of fun to fly.
