This is Novosibirsk, central Russia, on P3D2 in the defaut Bonanza. Click on the pics to see them in higher resolution.

I think it looks good considering it's global scenery, but I have to admit I got an out of memory crash after these shots so I'll have to turn down my settings a bit. Apparently LM are going to address memory management in V2.1 but this seems to be a limitation of 32 bit software.

The AN-2 would be a lot more culturally appropriate here dry.gif . If you look at top right of the pics you can see that I have the academic version.

Here are some pics from a flight I did tonight from Sydney heading inland. Again, this is P3D2, Rex, Orbx Global and Vector. Sydney itself isn't that flash but considering this is global scenery I think it's not that terrible bearing in mind this is a flightsim and not a train set. All the different bits are certainly recognisable but bridges are a bit of a disaster so far in general in Global Vector. I'm sure they'll get that sorted out soon.

Click on the pics for hi-res.

Doing this flight you realise how sprawling Sydney is, - just seems to go on forever... but eventually...

Imagine this flight with default FSX... unsure.gif

P3D2 is not without glitches but I'm finding it very stable, high frame rates and improved flight models. The autogen has to appear somewhere but that is so far away that you don't really notice it popping up like you do in FSX.

In the first two pics of Sydney you might have noticed strange white lights in the middle-distance. These seem to be a bug in FTX Global which Orbx are looking at.

Didn't notice them too much before but once you realise they shouldn't be there they are pretty annoying. You can get rid of them by turning volumetric fog on but that's not appropriate in fine weather.

OK, - here are a couple of NZ shots with OrbX Global Vector.

I uninstalled Supercity in an attempt to get rid of the white boxes (didn't work) so now I have Global Vector Auckland. It doesn't compare well with Supercity, obviously because that was made for this specific area and with local knowledge, but it's not too bad in terms of an urban area that looks about right (apart from the red rooftops). I haven't included pics of the CBD because it's dreadful, - and the Harbour Bridge is a flat strip on the water.

...and this is the coast west of Auckland, - again not a patch on Rob's Supercity but not too bad if you sort of imagine where the beach would be, and the surf. That's Whatipu in the distance.

The reason I didn't post any NZ shots before is that I never intended to use Global Vector to fly in this area, - as soon as it's available for P3D2 I'll use NZNI (and the Godzone stuff assuming it can be made compatible). That's why I went with Novosibirsk, - it seems like it would showcase how Global Vector can be used fairly convincingly in places where you don't have a detailed scenery add-on. You would never want to use global scenery in places you're actually familiar with, but in places you don't know, it gives a passable idea of what the place possibly looks a bit like unsure.gif .

David , I'm looking at the placement of the autogen , appears to at least follow housing and the curve off the roads , i do prefer photo but if the quality is as good as that first screen its looks like there maybe some direction in making it really look the part .

Need you to do a recon of Christchurch so i can compare if you don't mind , the general city area just to get a compare - head to major landmarks like the City center , Addington and Riccarton racecourse , would be great smile.gif

That's what I was thinking too. I'm not sure if it's always the case but the roads don't (always) just slice through the terrain arbitrarily, which is what we want.

Here are some pics of Christchurch with P3d2 and OrbX Global Vector. Bear in mind this is not photoreal scenery, - it should be compared with FSX default rather than something like NZSI.

Ian, - I don't know Christchurch well, don't even know where the centre is, although I guess it must be near the big splodge in the middle which presumably is Hagley Park. Hopefully you can pick out a few other places. I think the residential autogen is the same as that in Auckland, - would be good it we could get the roofs changed to dark and light grey.

These pics are late afternoon and I lightened nos. 7,8 and 9 in Photoshop, thus the difference in appearance. Click on them to get full-size.

I think most people who have FSX now will end up getting P3D, but there are good reasons why people might not want to take the plunge yet.
