Great shots splitpin. Sure does bring back memories.

Especially a very close call for one back in 1977. I was very young but to this day I can still remember watching it fly over Richmond with smoke billowing out of her....

Scroll down to Richmond (RAAFB) Australia 1977.

Cheers.

The most serious and only real test for Christchurch Airport was a C141 crashing onto the airports runway after breaking its under cart ripping the the bogie off in 1979.

Ian,

There use to be rumours going around RAAF Richmond that the C-141 pilots liked to land them hard, in the hope the aircraft would go US (Under Service) so they could spend more time in Sydney. They loved the beer, babes and beaches.

So maybe there was something in Christchurch too that took their fancy? LOL!!! laugh.gif

Cheers.

biggrin.gif Possible but it was a coldish day so I don't think that was the reason ... I posted a copy of the incident at the C141 site course based a screenie on it years ago.

Great screenie Ian!

Maybe those Pilots liked to hang out in Hanmer Springs while eating "hangi in a pie" and sipping on Jim Beam with L@P? LOL!!!

Cheers.
