That B1 instantly put me in mind of the many Eastern Brown snakes I saw (and often ran over) when I was working out west at Condamine - many of them had a slate-grey sort of colour, which left you wondering if it was a Taipan or not, since Taipans are not supposed to come so far south.
For those who don't know, the Taipan is known as the "two-step" snake...one of them bites you, you go two more steps and hacienda....
