Non-NZ
Hi all, figured I'd show you the sort of thing I get up to, since I don't do much flying in NZ these days. If you've not heard of this place before, I won't be surprised. Gilgit in Pakistan is not somewhere most probably won't have heard of. It's really a gem of a dangerous airport. So have look, and come for a ride into the mountains of northern Pakistan. This was flown for my virtual airline Phoenix Virtual Airways- just one of over 700 real world airlines we operate.
We'll be flying the PIA ATR42 today. Here we are parked at Islamabad Airport prior to departure.

Engine start

Climbing out of the airport and on our way

The foothills begin not long after departure

Cruising at 21,000ft today. Even that feels like we are just skimming the tops.

On the descent now, descending through 17,000ft and the giant peaks to the north tower above me. The Southern Alps have nothing on this.

Gilgit is now behind me, I will follow this valley the rest of the way

Need to head straight for this mountain, before executing a late left turn to the runway. You can see the runway on the left of the picture.

That turn in action

Got a bit wayward on the runway switching to spot view, but down safe

There is no terminal or parking at the default airport, please arrange your own transport from here via the grass beside the runway
Thanks for looking.

The ATR is the freeware ISDT model.
