The what ifs ... hell of an interesting play with aircraft the USA come up with , the ultimate would be the Fisher/General Motors P-75 Eagle , bit of Dauntless/Corsair/Aircobra and even Mustang and Thunderbolt parts.

The Dauntless tail and cockpit really stand out .. its the later lets try this option add later bits and pieces, so many different and even some not so out landish , the Mongoose really had potential, the others that made it after WWII .. Neptune's and Skyraiders .. course our fave the Peacemaker.

#1 is a great shot, it projects beauty and power at the same time. I find myself being both attracted and repelled winkyy.gif

Clever stuff, but I wouldn't like to fly in something with two huge donks like that and such a tiny fin/rudder, never mind the wing loading in a 'winding match', as John Cunningham used to call them.
As the caterpillar said to his mate when the butterfly fluttered by: "You'll never get me up in one those things" laugh.gif

Ian, I do believe the XP-75 prototypes were bitsers, with SBD, F4U, and others in there, but the 6x P-75As that were produced were completely original airframes as they found in testing that the combo of parts didnt work to well and when the USAAF changed the requirement from an interceptor to long range penetration fighter, the redesign included wings, empenage, though the wing center section with F4U landing gear. I would have liked to seen them with the full 10 .50cal gun setup

Yip, there was a couple of configurations, the first had the entire SBD/A-24 grafted on, the fourth XP-75 even had P-40 out wing panels, the later five only P-75A started with almost with its own airframe and still getting developed in 1944 , never completed trails when the order was cancelled , they had built enough P-51s and P-47s to fill the gap when the panic was off.

It would have a site to see six wing guns and the four fuselage guns going off in a strafing run !

It would have been cool indeed, the cool thing is that one of the A models somehow survived and is in the museum at Wright Patterson
