 true Owen ... I was reading a book (and i cant remember where it is ) called the "lightning boys" a collection of short recollections from the people who flew them .... amazing stuff.
Seems the Mk1's were low on fuel when they started the engines .... but what an incredible/ beautiful piece of engineering.
Now im worried about where that book is <_<

Think that's an understatement, the bowsers were practically escorting them down the runway lol

The most impressive Lightning footage I still recall was the beginning of the 1986 TV series 'Test Pilot' even had New Zealand's Steve Moore

I was very very sure the show had a camo single seater ripping up upstairs from the camera view, maybe a different edited version or maybe .. I don't recall , I did have the series on tape , but even show .. for the landing .. I do like the term "The Frightning" :D

I have tried to find that series on tape or disc ... even asked the BBC (no reply) I would give my left .... something , for the whole series.
Historically , its part of my past .... my one and only A-4(T) flight , was with (then) Flight Lieutenant Steve Moore , out of Wigram ... in the same T-bird they have on display now .... sorry , as I've no doubt recounted time and again.
And if the connection seems vague ...Steve was the Kiwi in the BBC series. He is now an Air Commodore ... or was last i heard.

I did find a link on Utube to the series 'Test Pilot' the other day, I should have posted it thru. Very sure Steve Moore is now a commercial aviation consultant now , ears picked up when and regard to ARBUSTS crashing all the time.
