This is the same model as the one posted before ... but this time i couldn't be bothered removing the aerial.

That is one thing many don't realize, many Harvard's right up to 1973 had the aerial , also the different variants from Noorduyn Aviation Mk11Bs without and Harvard IIA /AT-6C and D s with , even the RNZAF historical flights NZ1015 had the tall mast to the date when till the radio was changed.

Probably cut to receive and transmit on an HF frequency. Back in the day, HF radios were very popular in Alaska. You could run out the trail antenna on the ground and someone in the world would hear you. When I was stationed at Cold Bay, we could hear airborne traffic in Australia.

I had a good friend who had one off those old valve WWII receiver/transmitter sets , would have loved to get my hands on it , was able to pickup chat from all over the world, it was an amazing piece off equipment.
