Thanks Dave, MILVIZ , yeah Superb ! .. as they pointed out this is the 'E' interior but a 'J' external , for the general layman, most cannot tell the diff , .. best thing is least we now have a dedicated US Navy machine

What chance of some RAF paints?

74 Sqn re-formed at RAF Wattisham with fifteen ex USN F-4Js on October 19 1984. The Squadron was fully operational by June 30th, and, together with 56 Sqn at RAF Wattisham, formed part of the Air Defence Force for the United Kingdom.

This was necessary as a result of the delays with the Tornado ADV development and the need to provide cover at Mount Pleasant after the Falklands debacle leaving a hole in UK defence capability.

That's the one Kieth .. Tiger Squadron, even the late Mark Hanna flew with this group after the Falklands War .. be interesting to see who picks up on this , would be a relatively easy paint to do.

Thanks Rob , strange many well known aviation writers called the Phantom Ugly ! It would have to be described as the meanest looking combat jet and with the punch to prove it , everything about a Phantom makes it one off the prettiest in any form , the early's are the one's I'm more familiar I'm with were as most look at the longer nose 'E's , must be all the Carrier stuff and the Vietnam war history.

Ian, Mark had over 1000hrs in the Phantom, and at one point OFMC had a Phantom that mark had a lot of hours in. XV407 was the one at OFMC, i remember asking Mark one day at Warbrids over Wanaka one day about the Phantom as i noticed his 1000hr spook patch and if i recall he was pretty complimentary of them as a pilot, but trying to dogfight one, he would have F4J over a Spey Phantom for the power and response of the F4J, but they were not a classic dogfighter

I had a chat with Mark as well in 1996, didn't mention the hrs on them the F4, just chatted about the Falklands ... 1000 hrs on that one type tho is a lot , hell off a nice guy.

Oh so true Ian, Mark was a genuinely nice guy, so was Ray. I was lucky enough to be a ramp rat at WOW for the shows between 94 & 2004 so i got to meet most of those guys and talk to them.
Being an aviation heritage enthusiast, and having the pretty much all of the great planes series on video/dvd that was something i had seen on the F4 phantom video was pilots being given the 1000hr spook patch on achieving the feat. Mark had it on his flight suit and i noticed it so being an inquisitive 16yr old at the time I asked, and he was more the obliging to talk about it over lunch.

Now to have a bit off a play, little flight testing after following this documentary which is very Very interesting and gives
you a goo insight to the features .. you have to think of the weight as well looking at the actuator and rods , So Cool !
