I think the B-52 must be just slightly hidden behind the mountain ... actually I have a photo very similar to that but on the southern side from my bike tiki tours, unfortunately the have took a lot of detail out and it has aged. ..... that looking great

Funny through this area the main road is called the 'Desert Road' strange I ripped thru here many times mainly to stop at the Army Museum , I always preferred tho the Whanganui Raweti National Park route on the bike then across to Turangi then head up.
