I did try the Active Sky Next demo a while ago, and though it was great, but instead of a week or whatever they give you, I ended up with just a day, due to a P3D update. But now I've finally decided to splurge out on it ($50+) and I'm revisiting some of my favourite flights...

The chaps at HiFi do understand what makes weather tick...
I have ASE and it never fails to delight.
Don't know what else Next does, but likewise it looks purdy.

Yeah, I did notice that, if I don't have a local paint, then white is the next best choice:)

I must admit, as someone who doesn't like going anywhere on cloudy days, either in the Flight Sim or my Motorcycle, (or even walking), 'cos it will probably rain, and get me all wet and uncomfortable, ....and GA flying in clouds is not recommended anyway!
So I mostly stick to default clear skies, or just select a few default puffy clouds, really high up in the sky...

...!
Paul...clouding my mind....

...!

It amazing how wet you get riding thru cloud and how friggen cold it gets, we get some amazing views of cloud on a Christchurch North East day , your at 1300 feet at the Allendale ridge and when the cloud level is down , it is quite impressive!

Or mebbe rebrand it - Ian's Airtravel Network - Grand Luxe International Standard Hotels...but you'd need to think up a snappy acronym for it

I have ASN but I've yet to really get into it. I have being trying to get it to run from another networked PC and just cannot get it to connect. I follow the instructions implicitly but of course there is always a degree of ambiguity in them or important parts seem to be glossed over.
I don't know why that simconnect is so damn difficult to set up. FSWide set up seemed a breeze by comparison.
Lots of WTH moments that can only be consoled with something appropriate like a good bottle of red....as if by magic the problem seems to lose importance and gets shelved for another day!

One thing I loved about XP and FS9 , It was so easy to network , but XP to Win 7 I've simply given up , the weather machine worked well and lot off other things .. I'll wait till Windows20 comes out then give it another good then.

Generally networking has improved over time. It just gets tricky when you have a network via a ADSL router when it comes to things like port forwarding etc. Then you have workgroups and antivirus issues and SDK's to install as well. I guess we are just so used to PnP these days that these glitches become a source of irritation.

I guess it go's with everything, back in the day networked up cos, internet was ridiculously stupid expensive and slow and all the trappings , today a new OS , one that plays with HH devices, app and other strange how PnP simply is not that simple .. pointed out XP is obsolete and people say it won't update , but it dose ... what its doing I truly don't know ... matbe it is talking to the Win7 PC.

I have an XP install in a WIN7 network with a trial WIN10 box thrown in, and they certainly chat and make XP do things it never knew it was going to do...

I wish there was a *good* but simple weather app that just downloaded and injected. Nothing else. I don't need maps, previews, history, point-in-time, themes, flight plans or any of that other stuff. Just grab the current weather and put it in there. That's all. Easy! Thank you very much :-)
I also use ASN (previous to that was Opus); I don't use *any* of the 'advanced' features; don't need 'em, don't want 'em!

Hello Jeff - I installed FSRealWXLite a couple of years ago and found it gave me a good match for what I could see on MetServe, so I have kept it.
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=23914I don't have it permanently on, because clouds are a real frame-rate killer for my CPU. I usually look at MetServe to see if there is any interesting weather first
Cheers

Morning Jeff, I concur with emfrat, I use
http://www.fsrealwx.net/Latest version. I have registered but still freeware. Screen pops up with a 'not registered burble in the text header' but it does not apply.
For my set up there is only a very slight impact on frames and certainly delivers what is out the window most times. Good progressive change as geographical location changes nearer to different METARs - Cheers

I'll take a quick look if it is compatible with p3d v3. Asn is doing a good job, just don't need the bells and whistles. It does interfere after it is running, so that's good.
