Flight Report || Auckland (NZAA) to Christchurch (NZCH)FJI 451
Boeing 737-800
NZAA - NZCH
ETD: 1805 UTC
ETA: 1925 UTC
I woke early in my comfortable room at the Sudima Hotel, near Auckland Airport. The orange hue on the horizon to the east indicated that it was still well before my anticipated wake-up time. I tried to fall back to sleep but mind mind was already skipping ahead to to days duties: getting myself and my crew, as well as our passengers, safely to Christchurch (NZCH). It was time to get up and have a read over various NOTAMS, weather reports, TAF's, and charts for our sector ahead, departing in just over 3 hours time.
Not long after I got out of the shower, my First Officer knocked on the door reminding me of the crew breakfast down in the restaurant, beginning in just a few minutes. This would be a good chance to brief everybody on today's flight and any other matters at hand. I shot off down the lift and joined the rest of my team for a continental breakfast - oh the life of a pilot!
With the brief completed and a good chat with my colleagues at Fiji Airways, we were off to the airport on the crew bus. I was sitting calm but slightly anxious near the front, with my mind going over procedures for the flight as I have only been into Christchurch a few times. Chatting away to my FO seemed to relax me slightly, as this was at least his twentieth sector into the Garden City. We pulled in at the crew drop off zone and made our way through security and toward our aircraft for the day - a Boeing 737-800 - one of my favourites. Now time for a walk around and various preparation tasks for today's flight...
