Did the RNZAF ever operate any Winjeels of their own? I couldn't find any, so made one up!

Adam.

Great one Adam B-) The time RAAF finished using the Winjeel the RNZAF were also winding up there operations with the Harvard, the old Winjeel was simply an Australian Hunting Percival Provost licence built from the the late 1940 early 50, .. the closes relation to one off these the RNZAF used was the Strikemaster.

Nice one Adam...I have just bought this. Its a great add-on with many A2A like features ...and at a good price (and is compatible with P3D and FSX).. I find it more relaxing to fly than the A2A Harvard which is beast on landing and takeoff.

There are two Winjeels in NZ:
WJL which is currently unregistered and I think is languishing in Taupo

and the rarely seen ZK-JJG which lives down south in Ranfurly:

Ian, whilst the Winjeel looks like a Provost its a completely different design.

Same as a Wirraway to Harvard , the lineage is still there.

Yes, The Wirraway is based on the Harvard/Texan. The Winjeel isn't based on the Provost. I stand corrected if you can provide some information to the contrary

Not a problem in that direction.

I had a girlfriend in high school, who insisted that her sister's Hillman Imp had a Ferrari engine :o
It turned out that Mike Parkes, a former race driver for Ferrari, had been involved with the design of the Imp engine
There is a similar 'link' between the Provost and the Winjeel - a chap named Millicer who had worked for Percival's on the Provost, later emigrated to Oz where he designed the Winjeel for CAC.

Cheers Mike , I have not had a chance to dig up the books with details, have a neighbour here who always wanted to check out the Space Shuttle currently taking a 'Tiki' tour in flight sim, may have sold Grant New Zealand scenery , he is friggen impressed ,, i'm pleased I install the REX weather engine .. blowing his mind .. over Wellington photo real point out features .. may have sold a few scenery's , when Grant saw the header page and reconised Welly don't think he realized what he was in for ! :D

Interesting Mike. Of course Millicer went on to design the Airtourer and Aircruiser which evolved into the Airtrainer. Therefore the Winjeel and its Airtrainer replacement are related!

It dose not take much before the connections connect, the watering down of the people involved , of all things , before my accident I helped out the packaging crew at General Cable, to me they seem to get the short end of the stick, great thing simply counting cable and loading box's you were moving , one lady with a very strong accent started talking about a company she worked for in 1970 as a sectary.

The Company was Beagle Aircraft Limited ... she then went on to say then changed .. and we both said it at the same time 'Scottish Aviation' So on with the chat, got on like a house on fire , she knew the people very well and when SA got absorbed into BAC/BAe she moved to New Zealand , .. I was only new at 'GC' then she went to Graham, lead charge hand .. asked who I was , Oh that 'Biggles' just plane nuts .... course later it was 'Biggles' got shot down , :o and lost a great job.

Biggest thing is you don't realize who is standing beside ya before you really start learning to learn and if ya not a dummy and really can talk the talk it is very surprising the people who you get to meet ... it is a two way road.

My mistake: I was posting from memory (always a bad idea in my case!). It's actually ZK-WJL (A85-404) I meant: http://www.jetphotos.net/photo/8021072

I haven't seen a Winjeel flying at any of the shows I've been to (mainly Ardmore, Tauranga etc.).
