My backyard...

This is Banks Peninsula, in this case up above Akaroa, and this is the type of landscape I see every day where I live, in Lyttelton Harbour. I've always wanted a decent aerial image for the Peninsula, and this is the first I've seen that actually stands up to my scrutiny. I love this part of the country, and I'll miss it when I shift down south next week. I hope that one day I'll be back!

The last shot shows one of the VLC ag strips, right behind the tail, which I've just taken off from, after a very bumpy landing:) The great thing about the photo scenery is that you get a good idea of the scale of things, so landing on these strips is a lot easier that with just a texture strip in the middle of nowhere.

Cheers, Ian, I'm amazed how much of a kick I get out of flying around here, being able to fly areas I know so well has always been the main reason for creating scenery.

Yeah, things are kinda messed up at the moment, so I'll be staying with my son and his family down in Geraldine. Don't know how long, I plan to come back, but I'd need to sort out a lot of stuff first.

Lovely shots Rob!.... ....!

I spot a fantastic motorcycle road down there!... ....
.....No annoying English "hedges" to hinder the view!

Photo Scenery......do you still get the "3D effect" of objects when on the ground (like FS auto-gen scenery)?

The lack of 3D objects at ground level has always put me off using "photo scenery".
I spend most of my time on, or very close to the ground in all my Flight Sims.

Paul.....in glorious 3D!....
....with Dolby, surround sound... :D ...!

Paul, you'd love the road to Akaroa, stop off at the Hilltop for a coffee, a great day out...

The days of un-autogenned photoscenery belong in the past, these days there's no reason why it can't be well populated with trees and buildings. These particular shots are of the 'first pass' which I apply to all photoscenery, laying down large areas of vegetation and buildings based on GIS data, and then I go over the whole thing and hand-place everything else. This takes a long time, I think I spent 4 months annotating Dunedin, but it is worth it in the end.

I know that 'photoscenery' means flat scenery to a lot of people but it has come a long way since then.
