Hi Rob, is this your doing?

I know in the old days map makers used to insert a untrue island, so they could see if anyone else used their material without permission and the obvious copyright issues. Maybe some one is into hillside chalk drawings>>? Or NZ's own nazca patterns with aviation bent...Aliens perhaps!

Viewing Google Earth's 'historical imagery', this is a Landsat image taken 15/1/2012. Since it's a satellite image, it is always likely that it will include flying aircraft, there are plenty visible on GE, although I suspect that many would be 'painted out' for the actual LINZ releases.
