What is the final frontier in aviation? Is it the Okavango-Delta in Botswana? Papua-New Guinea? Indonesia? Australia, New Zealand? Alaska, The Andes-Region? Yeah, all of them. But Sibiria and the far East of Russia and the GUS like Kazakhstan, Kyrgistan, Azerbaidshan, Armenia... also.
One of the typical aircraft for decades flying in Russia´s Outback is the Antonov An 2. It was first build in 1946 for Agriculture, flying in rough and remote areas and for parachutists. Meanwhile a lot of of this aircraft are gone, forgotten and rotten somwhere in Sibiria and elswhere, but on the other side a lot of them are meanwhile active in use. Not bad for such an antique aircraft. It is as such unique, with its Wings, the "automatic" slats, the big radial-engline, and with its flying habits.

Today I have a flight at the krasnodarsky Kray, a District around the town of Krasnoyarsk in the Far East from Russia.

Molynino, the weather is a bit unstable today, but not a problem.

On the ground, the An 2 is stolid and i need some time to get it to the end of the runway.

Image

The takeoff is funny. Only flaps one position down and power.... the aircraft is going alone from the ground, no help by the pilot needed.

Image

A bit to high temperature around the engine, Cowl flaps wide open and reduce the setting for the Prop.

Today we didn´t need a GPS, just follow the Yenisei River.

Enisejsk is meanwhile in sight.

It is so slow...

The touchdown is not perfect... but this is not so problematic with this aircraft.

But now you have the problem, typical for taildraggers. You see not much with that big engine in front of you.

Leaving the runway and looking for a free place...

Hordes of Anna´s are stored here. Krasair is meanwhile out of business. My aircraft has the old livery of the USSR-Aeroflot, and they are from the Russian Federation. Must see to find another Paint.
