Shalom and greetings all my pals

Photobucket is BACCKKKKKKK!! Our previous screenshots on all screenshot posts have been RESTORED FOREVER!!!

Announcement from Photobucket:

Photobucket has new management, and we are liberating your images!

As of today, your hosted images are live.

Photobucket has a new management team that wants to do the right thing. We are committed to earning back your trust and offering comprehensive and flexible image storage and hosting options for our customers. We’ve taken your feedback and made some changes to our pricing model that allows us to offer competitively priced plans that fit the needs of all of our customers.

Today, our current customers’ hosted images have been restored and Photobucket is introducing a new pricing plan that is built around everyone’s needs.

For a limited time, we are offering a new, competitive subscription package that includes ad-free storage and 3rd party image hosting for just $1.99 per month, or $19.99 per year - which is 95 percent less than the previous pricing model. A free subscription option will still be available to customers who do not require 3rd party image hosting.

In an effort to improve our customers’ experience, we’ve also moved away from an advertising-based model and have eliminated a portion of ads from the site.

Photobucket pioneered the image sharing and hosting market 15 years ago, and our new management team is committed to returning Photobucket to the premier imaging service people had come to know and trust.

There are more positive changes on the way, but for now we are excited to share this new compelling subscription option, as a testament to our dedication to you, our valued customers.

Q: My images have always been stored at full resolution - will they stay that way?

A: We are implementing technology to ensure that all photos uploaded to our platform are stored at their original resolution for every plan.

I do not know if it is good news or not!!!!!  20 bucks per year????  What do all of you think?

Regards,

Aharon

They come, they go...
Grab it while you can, and move on when the time comes.
There will always be competition.

Glad to see all those old pictures come back to life in the forums though!

You still have to lop off bits from the front and back of the link to make it work.
Maybe the "New Management" can wake up to the fact that images are actually posted to forums?

PS That's me flying the Boeing BTW. Outside Te Papa.

After what Photobucket did to their customers, I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. Their main drive seems to be lining their own pockets.

I guess that is the aim of most businesses to be fair. It is how they went about doing it that really hacked most users off.

It was a reminder to look up my old e-mail address* and password* for Photobucket from long, long ago, and retrieve some of my long forgotten Pictures!
...a blast into the very distant past!.... :o ....!

I actually store all my pictures, screen-shots, etc, on my regular "Simviation" Flight Sim Site since 1998, and provide a link in the various forums, e-mails, etc, that I visit.

They have always been very secure there!

Paul... :D ....!

* always saved in my little black book!

I am still waiting for FsFiles to come back. Meanwhile I am leaning to Imgur.

Adamski, are you friends with owner of FsFiles? Do you know what is the time frame for FsFiles to return to action?

Regards,

Aharon

Adamski,

Thanks for answer.

Splitpin,

Yes but it is your opportunity to retrieve your past screenshots and move them to other places.

Aharon

I'm using Postimage and so far so good. Quick and easy.

I imagine the forum software does a bit of work too.
Neither image looks as good as the one on my desktop.

Something wrong about the way you've created the Postimage link, I think.

Here's a discarded candidate for this month's "Naval" screencomp:

For 1280px images, my upload is *exactly* the same as on my local PC (I did a bytecount as well):

1280px via "Direct Link":
Image

1280px via "Download Link":
Image

Both of the above are unaltered. However ... for images wider than 1280px ...

1350px via "Direct Link" (either the forum software or Postimage has resized and resampled the image and no link to the full image). Noticeably more artefacts/dithering in areas like the red part of the fuselage roundel.
Image filesize is 152k:
Image

1350px via "Download Link" (the forum software or Postimage has rescaled the image - with a link to the full, unadulterated image).
Image filesize is 214k:
Image

This last image is identical to my local copy.

Note the difference between "resize" and "rescale". The former is a permanent resize - with loss of quality, while the latter is a temporary [browser] preview only.

Adam.

I cannot tell difference BUT PLEASE keep discussion about quality of all image hosting websites going on so that we can find the best one! I am leaning to Imgur if FsFiles has not returned to action.

There won't be any differences in pics #1 and #2. However - if you compare #3 with the fully zoomed #4, you should be able to see some compression dithering/artefacts around the the fuselage roundel in #3. Other images may show it far more obviously.
