Yes I always believe in researching EACH of all my screenshots and create well detailed explanations on each screenshot. That is what makes a flight screenshot report most effective.

Nice shots Aharon. My home town airport. Can I point out one small error; that nice first shot is actually Lake Waihola. You can see the township of Waihola in the background. There’s actually a lot more buildings there than is depicted. It’s typically a small NZ town; a couple of garages, a cafe, tavern and permanent and holiday homes. The lake is quite shallow, i.e. “I think” about 6 to 8 feet deep. Very weedy and lots of eels. There’s rowing and water sports there in the summer months. Lake Waipori on the other hand is nothing more than a large oversized swamp immediately above the northern end of Lake Waihola and is only good for duck shooting when in season. The only buildings there are the mai mai’s left over from the last shooting season. You’re correct in the second shot. The Waipori river flows out of both lakes and heads out to the coast at the small settlement of Taieri Mouth like you said. That section of river is very short, probably only 4 or 5 k’s at the most. In your second shot you can actually see the Taieri River flowing into the Waipori River.

It’s great to see good shots like yours with excellent airport scenery, especially when I only live a few k’s from NZDN.

Well............................ When I was doing research and analysis of each of my screenshots, I tried to best of my abilities to match my screenshots to specific locations in Google maps. Regarding the first shot, when researching and trying to match my flight path (actual approach path) to locations in the Google maps, I did notice on Google map that I passed two lakes in middle of final approach and tried to match one of two lakes to the particular screenshot based on the shape and size of the lake in the screenshot and I guess I made the wrong match.

What can I say? Chalk it up as rare error for some guy who is even not New Zealand native such as me or otherwise I would have been pro like you recognizing New Zealand landscape like you are!!!

Thank God!! Two errors in single screenshot flight report would be bad enough!!

And thanks for correcting me about the identity of the lake. Good eye catch!! I did not even notice town consisted of few houses in my first screenshot!

Aharon
