the new sim ?

Did I dream the last few months, or has a new sim been released?
Must be true, months of speculation and developers scrambling for the first add on, etc etc.
It seems the new kid on the block is no more important than all that preceded, if judged by the lack of screenshots....
I've been roaming through the NZFF archive of posts , and a distinct pattern stands out.
1: New sim announced
2: Major speculation about "Will they do this" "I heard this" ....blah blah blah ....its been going on since ....well, since we could communicate like this.
3: New sim is released ..... everybody stays up all night to download it.... or pays for the DVD's.
4: A flurry of screens and opinion.
5: Waiting for the next best thing.
I appreciate that you may be so engrossed, that your keeping it all at home, and thats good, but, if , as some are insisting( me to a certain extent) ...this is the benchmark for flightsim.....then please share the love a little more, at least screen wise. Convince me too sink even more hard earned money into something I cant actually tuck into a DVD case, and risk it all to the whim of a hacker ....convince me.

Well, it certainly looks good, or can be made to look good, especially in screenshots. But after a long saga yesty involving FTX Central refusing to recognise that I was connected to the internet, to d/l what I had paid for I was forced to let SuperBeast out on the 'Net. Unfortunately, the mobo I chose for that machine would not accept Win7, so I had to install W10 and all its works and pomps. With the latest FTX Central installed, it was happy to go out and d/l the ORBX AFS2 airport I wanted. So after disconnecting it again I did a restart to get everything right, and it did, but there was a dialogue box saying MS had downloaded updates and I should install them. Now I disabled the Windows Update service ages ago, and I had checked before I connected SuperBeast to the ''Net that it was still disabled - so someone other than myself altered those settings. Fortunately I was able to find a registry edit to stop ALL Windows Update shenanigans, including the "Facilitator" which clearly reinstates the default settings. We shall see.
I don't want MSFS because:
Windows 10
No DVD install available.
Massive bandwidth consumption, with uncontrolled updates from MS, and everything being stored in the cloud.
So I will be staying with AFS2
Here endeth the grump.

Ditto
DVD's are a requirement for me
MSFS still too buggy- Latest patch 13.6 GB the same size as a FSX new install. It still needs a lot of work.
Like you I do not like leaving my good PCs online which is required for Bing maps downloads for the cache, and the default scenery is not much better than the old Orbx scenery which I have discarded.

I’ve spent what time I can have (busy at work, moving houses, new life) on MSFS (p3d is currently inop.) but been focussed elsewhere with the sim. I’ve either been totally immersed with the fantastic visual side of the sim (have to disageee that it isn’t much better than default Orbx - it’s much better), trying to work out how and what works or trying to fix issues (currently trying to sort a big problem) so screen shots haven’t been in the front of my mind. They will come!

I'll not be getting it for some time. I just can't afford the data and I'll need a serious upgrade of hardware. I never did enough on the alpha to work out whether the flight model was any good or not. Also, no helicopters yet so I'll be putting my time into XP for the time being, which incidentally, is giving me a solid and silky smooth 40 to 50fps most of the time.

Cheers for the input chaps.....Didnt mean to sound ...well, whatever I sounded like.
Haven't been feeling that flash the last few days, and everything was pissing me off .....even stuff that shouldn't.

I'm also holding of on MSFS until VR and possibly helis - I still haven't yet been notified that the HP Reverb G2 is available for hire.
By the time I go MSFS, at this rate, I'll also need a new PC and there is no way I'll get that past the missus, so it might be I'm 'stuck' where I am for a few years!

Keep in mind the words of a wise man - "never buy the 'A' model of anything".

"never buy the 'A' model of anything". Wise words indeed OD , but sometimes the 'A' Model is the best ..... but.. "folks just have to mess with stuff that dont need messing with" ...(Uncle Jedd, overheard at a cocktail party in DC) , to launch...
...something that needed launching ....from a cocktail party.

I'm never quite sure whether I prefer your repaints, or your screens, Jankees.
I guess one could have both

And that is fantastic news.
