Gloster Gladiator... the last biplane fighter in the Royal Air Force and as Sea Gladiator of the Royal Navy.
It is already a strange feeling that these machines were in full use over North Africa in 1941 and the Gloster Meteor Mk. III was put into service in 1944. It was a huge leap. The pictures are from the simulation of 1C Games "Battle over Tobruk" where there are a number of aircraft that are not so well known. But I'm glad I don't always have the same "aircraft. The scene in North Africa also has its advantages in simulation. The desert landscape is rather barren, then there is the south coast of the Mediterranean and little to see, of course the Via Balbo, which winds along the küpste with traffic and the forts and fixed positions...

Let's look a little bit. Biplanes as well as flying boats and float planes are rarities today.

Fighting in a fighter double-decker against other double-deckers is a fighting style that in 1940/41 had actually "already gone out of fashion" but showed itself for the last time in North Africa. It was about who could fly the tightest circle to come slowly and relentlessly against opponents and shoot him. This was also tried in one-decker, but this proved to be witless in the fight between biplane and monoplane. Vertical manoeuvres proved to be more useful and the more stable monoplanes performed better. It still applies to this day. You shouldn't want to fight the way your opponent fights best.
