Great shots

Thanks for introducing me to NZPP!! You made me google this airport for info :D :D One interesting statement out of info for this airport is One solution has been proposed to operate a traffic light system north of the airport on Kapiti Road to momentarily halt traffic, but only when required for maximum performance take-off.

That makes me wonder if it is true??

Good thing there is high quality but FREEWARE NZPP scenery by ToProb!! Gonna download this scenery!

Question: Does this Cessena plane have night passenger window light?

Regards,

Aharon

It's part of a statement that's been, taken out of context from the Wikipedia article for NZPP Kapiti Coast Airport which needs some further clarification on the context behind it, to make it in part sort of true.

This is the full statement.

"On 29 March 2018, Air Chathams expressed an interest in starting up services to Auckland from Paraparaumu with one of its Saab 340, but the aircraft has potential performance restrictions that could cause disruptions with passenger off-loading. One solution has been proposed to operate a traffic light system north of the airport on Kapiti Road to momentarily halt traffic, but only when required for maximum performance take-off. Air Chathams estimated that, on average, the lights would be required about 10 times a week.[6]"

Note that [6] is a reference to a online source webpage that is now no longer available, however it was a source, taken from a Local news media article "Kapiti Coast Beach FM Radio Station". The Local NZ Media News outlets reported at the time in 2018 when Air New Zealand made a shock announcement that it was pulling out of the regional air services for NZPP, causing a huge public outcry triggering a national New Zealand public debate.

Concern for the future of Kāpiti Coast Airport after Air New Zealand axes flights

Kapiti protests after Air New Zealand scraps flights

It was just speculative talk about a solution, that had been proposed when the Local Mayor and Politicians with the Kāpiti Coast District Council became involved through meetings in finding a work around for a bureaucratic solution.

The local news media outlet speculative proposed solution is mentioned in this Beach FM Radio Podcast "The Morning Magazine Show with Nigel Hopkins" and Air Chathams CEO Craig Emeny updates on the possibility of his airline flying from Kapiti to Auckland.

In short the Kāpiti Coast District Council talked about speculative proposed solutions in meetings with Air Chathams CEO Craig Emeny. In the end that's all that it was. Just speculative proposed talk, that never actually eventuated as happening.

To this day Air Chathams continues to operate its Saab 340 aircraft flying in and out of NZPP using Runway 16 which was an initial cause of concern in the solution that had been proposed due to the proximity of a 60 Metres portion of unuseable runway 16 seal length, nearly touching Kapiti Road, which runs past the aerodrome.

So their is some part truth to the statement being made at the time, but in reality the proposed solution was never needed as the available runway length 1307 Metres was plenty long enough from the 110 Metre starter extension available for the Saab 340 aircraft and that of the previous Air NZ operated Bombardier Q300 Dash 8 to operate from.

There are no road traffic light system installed on Kapiti Road to momentarily halt traffic for aircraft taking off and landing.
