ZK-HKG

Postby chopper_nut » Mon Sep 20, 2021 3:56 pm

In case you missed it, the fabulous SA315 Lama from Philip Ubben and Khamsin now has a NZ repaint thanks to my father's old photos. Philip chose Marine Helicopters HKG out of the pics that I sent and this is going to be included in the 1.1 update that will be released soon. This is the most realistic helicopter possibly for any sim ever but certainly for XP.

That looks bloody nice. They were good machines to fly as well, from what I've heard.

It's lovely alright. The Lama is a bit of a case of the son killing the father... The Squirrel does most everything that the Lama did quicker and in greater comfort. Eurocopter and now Airbus have no interest in supporting the Lama or Alouette anymore so they've made them nearly impossible to run. They're currently doing the same to the BO105. But yes, the Lama is supposed to be a pilots dream.

I recall the days when Boyce Barrow used to fly the Lama home. They lived across the road at the base of Mangere Mountain and often, around dinner time, it would come in to land. Nick Barrow also used to bring the odd Hughes 500 home as well. You can't do that these days.

Great shots Nick ...I've only ever seen and heard one of these, for me the memory of the noise is what lingers.
That Turbomeca was a real screamer.

Yep, they sure we're noisy. They even tried fitting silencers to them. If you saw the last flying one (ISK), it had them fitted. If you saw one where the turbine noise was masked somehow, they actually sound a lot like a Squirrel.

Still playing with the Lama. Flown it from Hamilton to Hokitika via New Plymouth, Wanganui, Paraparam and Nelson. The only helicopter that I've ever had in a sim where I can fly it with the same accuracy as the real thing. It's superb.

Here's heading for the coast out of Nelson.

Great shots of this superdetailled heli, was known in our (belgian)army as Alouette II and have flown ones as military-passenger during my short military career some 40 years ago.
Was replaced about 15-20 years ago by the Agusta.

It's a lovely add-on. The Alouette II is actually a different aircraft . The Lama uses a modified Alouette II frame with the engine and drive line from the Alouette III. Significantly more powerful than the Alouette II.

No worries. The quickest way to tell the difference is the Alouette II has a two bladed tail rotor, the Lama has a three bladed tail rotor. There are others but that's the simplest

Lyndiman ortho scenery for NZ is free, the better overlays for the ortho are also free, $15 for the volumetric clouds in the last two screens, all airports in NZ have been tarted up for free.... ASN is available for XP... superior helicopter flight model, I have no need for MSFS
