Every picture tells a story ...

Unusual for me, but here's a *story*!!

All the following are the AH Spitfire in MSFS - a test flight using REX weather at NZQN. Though MSFS has plenty of bugs/shortcomings/faults, the visuals are stunning!

Here we are at NZQN. Though, technically, flying was strictly IFR - this flight was designated *urgent* and a take-off was authorised (though not a landing).

Yuk!

A little wobbly, but at least I got off safely ...

Keeping exactly to the runway heading and climbing steadily, I cleared the local mountains - but it still looks pretty gloomy:

Not sure at this stage what to do - and where to go!
Image

... but the weather did seem to be improving slightly ... and lo and behold - a hole appeared in the clouds, right above NZQN ...
Image

.. but I still had to get there (and descend) safely ... so I had to CHEAT: skip forward to the future and flip on my handy GPS to track me down through the hills (especially as my demister appears to have gone u/s):

Made it - and just time for a quick pass to check the state of the runway ...

Once around the circuit, then a tentative approach (where did all that snow suddenly come from???):

Made it!!!

Postscript:
Up until now, I've been using the free "Unreal Weather" - which has been performing fine - but I thought I'd give REX a try as it interpolates data between METAR locations (and there aren't that many in NZ). Overall, I'm delighted with it. It appears to be able to handle atmospherics well - and streams the changes gradually. Highly recommended!

Adam.

Hi Adamski,
Stunning series of pics and totally agree with your comments on REX Weather Force...........it's great and so easy to use with a number of preset options as well.
Thanks for the story
Barrington
