Mil Mi 24P helicopter gunship (DCS)
The Mil Mi 24P (P like Puschka=cannon)
was used at the end of the Soviet war in Afghanistan. The main difference was the replacement of the small rotating turret on the chin with a 12.7mm machine gun for a cannon, but fixed. So you have to rotate the whole helicopter to hit something with that thing. The Russians still have a few copies of the further developments, but in the meantime they mainly use the Kamov Ka 52 Aligator and the
Mil Mi 28N, the Ukrainians got all (?) Polish and Czech copies.
I had that thing over me during the last maneuver of the East German NVA. You wishes when one sits in one's foxhole directly below them just to be far away or invisible. It's awfully loud.
