Even More Huntering

Part two of the colourful 1TWU Hunters. This time it's the F6 XG223 which tried out yellow as a visual aid. F6s, FGA9s, FR10s and T7s all operated together at 229OCU / 1TWU pretty much until the Hunter was finally retired from squadron service although by this time, the FR10s were pretty few and far between. A number of F6s were converted to F6As bringing them more in line with the FGA9 by giving it a braking chute and the ability to carry the larger 240g tanks but retaining the smaller engine.

I have uncovered a problem with this FS version of the Hunter though in that it absolutely will not go supersonic.

Very nice ....the Hunter was always "just right" .
It looked good, and from what I've read, it flew well.
I have the Richard Pike book "Hunter Boys" as yet unread...must do that.

Nick, do you remember the BBC (I think) series "Test Pilot"? At that time, the Hunter was the only RAF aircraft cleared for spinning.

Yes, the Hunter is the perfect looking combat aeroplane and it certainly has proved to be one of the longest lasting military aeroplanes. Test Pilot is a pretty good watch. I seem to remember that it was the only swept wing jet cleared for spinning. I'm pretty sure the little JP was spun.

" swept wing " .... your right Nick, and the JP was spun.

I remember the German guy on the course... commenting on the Hunter spin ... "quite wild"
Really wish I could get that whole series back. As I've mentioned before (Oid fart memories), I flew in a TA4-K with then FLt Steve Moore, who was also part of that series.

I have the series on one of my hard drives. Let me see if it's small enough that i can upload it to my Google drive.
