Oldie making a comeback...

Thanks to a member here (Andy) for plenty of photos to get me started on an update for this airport. Early days, though.

If it's for MSFS, I'm in!
But...I don't recognize it yet, do tell.

Yes, Kapiti Coast Airport nowadays.

Excellent!
I actually know it well, but the other side...
It was a favoured FS9 destination in the Marlborough scenery (which not to repeat myself, was 10+)
Now you mention it, the control tower was a giveaway.

Amazing Rob, there's even a shadow of a person on the door.
Beautiful work Sir.

Cheers, in the finished scenery it'll be the shadow of the aero club at that time of day, but I haven't built it yet:)

Finally paid a visit to the airport last Sunday, as always the Kapiti Coast weather cannot be trusted, but got a few photos to keep me going.

This aero club location didn't exist last time I did the scenery, as the aero club was over the other side of the runway. Makes a nice area to focus on now with the island behind.

The clubrooms is my first attempt at a 'PBR painted' model, and may include the interior. (So far my model is carpeted but not furnished.) I'm not a big fan of this method of texturing, it does make it a bit 'computery', but people do seem to like this sort of thing -- such as NZA's work. If I don't like the result, I'll just go back to the old way, and slap a photo texture on a box...

I'm always perplexed as to why modelling the interiors of airports/terminals is so popular. I sort of wish all those resources should go into adding more *exterior* objects - as that's what we see from the aircraft.

That said - the new NZMF has the most incredible detail (inside *and* out).

I'm very much the same, Adam, in my experience I'll only see inside any building I own once, just to check it out. The rest of the time I would just forget it was there.
I've really treated this building the same as an open hangar -- during the day they almost always have one or more doors open, so any aircraft parked outside would have a clear view. This building will have LODs (levels of detail) which remove the internal detail once you are far enough away that you wouldn't see through the glass front. So at an airport with a lot less than the average number of buildings, it won't really affect performance anywhere near the affect it would have on a big airport.

Reckon your texturing is first class.
I could imagine a "Lite" version without the silverware in the kitchen, but focussed detail outside.

That's exactly my stance! However - interiors of open-door hangars are worth it, IMHO.

I’d really like to see scenery developers offer a selectable interiors option. The same goes for aircraft developers and their cabins.
They just hog resources.
