AFS4 updated

An AFS4 beta update is now available on Steam. I have been pottering around some familiar places, and it's not bad at all, considering it is all standard AFS objects.
I was a bit annoyed when it didn't show trees as well as buildings, lights and stuff, then I remembered I had set Tree Density to 'None' last month

Steam, eh, goodonya!
Those guys have elements that are superb, and then somehow don't always follow through.
Is AFS4 on smartphones? I thought that's where they went.

This really is a a major step forward. I hope the Scenery SDK is close behind. I know some of the community devs are already working on improved textures and roof types, for the autogen. The SDK will allow conversion of AFS2 custom buildings to AFS4.
It has been delivered by the IPACS team, despite the unceasing barrage of "I want, I want, Are we there yet?" from the mobile crowd, who seem to think a low-powered phone is going to deliver the same performance as a proper desktop or laptop.

Ta mate - it's one of Kristoff's. This is from his readme:

ms893
The SOCATA Rallye was a light aircraft manufactured in France by SOCATA, beginning in the 1960s. It was originally by Morane-Saulnier as the MS.880. It was eventually replaced in production by the Socata TB series in the 1980s, but continued in production in Poland under licence by PZL as the PZL Koliber. (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

This is free add-on for AeroflyFS4 created by Krzysztof Kaniewski, 2019, 2022
3D model by Patrice Poly "WooT" (3D, FDM). Thanks to him.

I tried a flight from NZAA to Auckland City where there is certainly no DLC active. I switched networking on and off but don't see any difference in the ground textures.

My son (whom I gave acces to my Steam library) reported the same in the Steam forum

Any ideas what could have gone wrong?

Kind regards, Michael

Hello Michael, good to see you. The screenie below was taken between the Whenuapai one and the Auckland Lights one ( if you click 'Quote' you can read the filenames in the code). I could see many large 3D buildings, including a representation of the Sky Tower, below the tail of the Beechcraft. Maybe you could check the Building Density setting. I am trying to get some useful comparitive testing done, but my provider Telstra has been absolute rubbish this last few days. This morning a speed check showed Downloads 0.2 Mbs and Uploads 22.0 - the reverse of what it should be. Then it just disconnected me when I asked for a speed test while AFS4 was running.

Hi, thanks for replying. The Sky tower is there and the tall buildings, too. However, the ground textures look the same.

Perhaps I will recheck.

Kind regards, Michael

That could be it, Michael. IPACS are using their own global mesh and photoscenery, not the excellent NZ orthos from GeoffKiwi. There must be a way to overlay that on the IPACS mesh and have the cultivation placed on that, instead.
I was checking NSW and Qld yesterday and the mesh is too flat. The ortho was not very good either. I noticed that the aircraft seemed to be over the intersection of four scenery tiles, which had not fully loaded, but beyond that square, trees and buildings were visible, only to disappear again when I turned back from near Toowoomba for another look. Given the erratic performance of Telstra's service, it is impossible to say what the basic cause is. I flew from Wollongong past Sydney and then moved location to Brisbane. There were many 'empty' areas, but these seemed to coincide with the internet disconnecting. Re-starting my HTC Hub did not fix the nearest tiles, but the farther ones loaded fine until I got yet another disconnect. Very frustrating.
Time I was in bed :)

Hello Michael :D I think I've cracked it !
These screenies show the AFS4 beta with Michael (IZ0JUB)'s AFS2 Brisbane Extra images, and the file structure I am using. The image files are directly in the oc_au folder, and there is no 'images' folder. Compare with the pics in this post on the IPACS forum:
