nice Marty !! .. on a related note was working from home this week and saw a low flying smokey herc on the horizon pass thru Hamilton city and pulled a super tight turn over the airport then carried on south, turns out was the retirement flight for one of the older model Hercs?

I'm always a bit puzzled by the Air Force's [lack of] decent PR. I live just around the corner from Whenuapai and would have liked a little advance warning - as I'm sure that Herc did a few "unorthodox" manouevres around the base.

I managed to see some Skyhawks beat up the airfield when they retired, but that was pure luck as I happened to be in the garden at the time!

Over the 20yrs or so of going to air shows at Ardmore, I think the RNZAF has only put in an appearance 2 or 3 times. Even re-directing an existing exercise to take in a low pass over NZAR would have been nice. It's tax payers' money after all - and it'd be nice to actually see what we're paying for.

It was announced on online channels. I saw it on Facebook. It was the most tracked flight on Flightradar24 that day, so word did get out!
Two retired and Three to go. You still have a chance to get a look in.

Scrapped would be my guess.
Nice shot of a proper plane. I might be biased having spent a few years at 5 Sqn of course!

YES! There was a Herc doing circuits and bumps (or doing "jollies" for staff). I can hear them, then rush out into the garden to cop a view ... always an awesome sight.
