MSFS 2020

Postby Charl » Mon Jul 15, 2024 8:50 pm

Somehow there are more updates to this sim than I have time to identify.
I've spent a little time catching up with the state of play (Did I really not install NZA's Milford Sound??)
Also the controller bindings are slowly coming back, when you put your head down and work it through it all comes together.

Found these: Here's some tomfoolery down south

And some Cessna's, plenty of these!

Thank you for the comments gents, well pressed, Marty B-)

The Third Shot: Ya should've seen the first 3 tries!
I am interested in the halo around the tyres, a reflection artifact I suspect as MSFS background does respond to foreground movement.
Let's just imagine it is spray still spinning with the wheel, eh?

Objectively, my pick is #6.
There is much going on to test the CPU/GPU, the scenery, and indeed the sim itself.
The final scenery test will be when I get round to checking out what used to be a texture smear on those almost-vertical faces.

I concur, and had that feeling all over again coming back to it.
CP I am assuming you have mastered the PMDG 777 and will share your nostalgia?

We are facing the FS 2024, which will really take place this year. I've been doing this hobby since 1990 and this time I'm asking myself whether I can and want to make the switch. Honestly. I do not know. There was at least one video on YouTube. But I'm not convinced. The whole thing is slipping more and more into the area of "easy on the eyes". There's more of this mission stuff that never interested me. What's new about the planes and the feeling of flying or even the weather, we'll see and after that, what was seen, Navigraf will have a difficult time in the future.

Anything else. I'm going to need a new computer. My Ryzen 5 with a clock speed of 3.6 won't do it anymore. The next processor generation as Ryzen 7 or an I 7 is the lower limit. It will have to be 32 GB of RAM and a “modern” graphics card.

Yes, I’m having fun with it. It is a pretty good replication of the real thing.
The sounds are not quite right and I believe that this has been acknowledged by PMDG.
Of course the EFB is completely different to real world but it is useful. I’d like to see more integration with GSX in a similar fashion to the Fenix A320. The LNAV is significantly improved and works well.
The electronic checklist is generic Boeing and works well except that when completing an item the cursor should automatically move to the next item.
Pretty minor stuff really. The main thing is that the handling is pretty spot on. I have yet to try out the non-normal aspect of operations.

It's good to see a Thread dedicated to FS2020 for all our woes and troubles in getting it up and flying!
I had recently installed it, and was confused by all its over-complication compared to my trusty 2006 FSX Sim!
Luckily, one of my Sons was at hand, to help out with getting my "Saitek Cyborg X Flight Stick" recognised in FS2020 instead of the bl**dy X-Box Game-Pad, (my Saitek Stick gets recognised automatically in FSX), and finally getting me off the ground!
I assume that FS2020, upon first loading, checks our Processor, Graphics Card and Memory, and runs the Sim accordingly?
I have yet to find out where and how to change the Graphics settings!
I have found FS2020 slightly "different" from my 2006 FSX with all its years of add-ons, so far, I am having fun with both!
I'm using my HP Victus 15L Ryzen Gaming Computer (£700) for both Sims, which copes with FS2020, so far!
Most of my daily flights occur around Southern California, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico, (an area I am very familiar with in all my Flight Sims!)....and it's always nice and warm and cosy there!.... :D ...!
There you go, Folks!
I must pop in here regularly, to see what is going on in FS2020!....!

Paul...(UK)...The Easily Confused... ... ...!

P.S. In Options/Graphics; the settings default to; "ULTRA" so it must be my lucky day with my HP 15L RYZEN Gaming Computer!!..... :groupwave: ...!

Paul I think you are correct in assuming the Sim Knows Best as far as default settings is concerned.
It is such a juggernaut in what it allows you to do, having a Son to hand might be the best way to get along with it!
And the updates... amazing depth and frequency, sometimes to your detriment.
Addons especially can be crippled, and the Devs then have to scurry to stop your favourite button suddenly flushing the toilet.
cowpatz wrote: I have yet to try out the non-normal aspect of operations.
Can't wait to hear what you find.

hasegawa wrote:The whole thing is slipping more and more into the area of "easy on the eyes" <Snip> I'm going to need a new computer. My Ryzen 5 with a clock speed of 3.6 won't do it anymore.
MS informed me that my previous hot rig was not WIN 11 compliant, to my disbelief.
So I upgraded for once without being driven by a flightsim!
Asobo have been really careful about performance though, unlike the FSX experience that drove me out of simming for a generation.

I think fs2020 is a really well balanced package.
For me, (see above) the look of the sim counts more than anything, and I am happy.
Others (and see above) can dive in to really deep waters and come out with a smile.

FS2024 will be easier on hardware, and presumably will address many "It Would Be Nice To Have" known issues,
I suspect it might be magnificent

Fozzer there is a huge amount of stuff on YouTube regarding settings and other recommendations. You can be on there for hours.
http://www.flightsim.to is a great place for addons etc everything from utilities, sceneries to aircraft and more. Most of it simply requires just dropping it into your Community folder…easy as. Two recommendations I would make is to:
  1. Rename your Community folder prior to doing a MSFS update. During MSFS updates a lot of folk have weird things happen to their community folder. Sometimes every thing within it is deleted. Doing the following should help: Rename the Community folder to something like Community.bak. After the update MSFS will have created a new Community folder. Simply cut the contents from the new Community folder and paste into your Community.bak folder, delete the new empty Community folder and then change the name of the Community.bak folder back to Community.
  2. Make a back up of your controller config/settings. I cannot remember where that .cfg file is located, and I’m not near my fly sim rig to find out, but once again try google/Youtube. It is a real pain having to set up all your controller profiles again

Many thanks, Chums, for all your help!
Funny thing is, I never seemed to have had all these complications since my first Microsoft flights in 1982, with my trusty Sinclair Spectrum (48K), and my Commodore C64.... ...!
It was a far simpler life back then!... ...!
Thanks Charl, for your various recommendations....
..I far too often poke my finger into; "program" places and my important files suddenly disappear!.... :( ....!
I've enjoyed all my Internet Group Flights since the 1990s, with all my Internet Chums from FFNZ and Simviation, over the many years!.... :D ...!
My trusty 2006 FSX is still on my Desktop, waiting to be flown....
..and in the meantime, my new FS2020 is beckoning me for another exploration of the World...(Mostly California, etc, where the scenery is magnificent, and the weather is mostly good (warm).... :D ...!
I think I've mostly figured out how to get started, with opening the; "World" Option, and locating my desired airfield...in the middle of nowhere.... ...!
I marvel at the FS2020 Google Satellite scenery, showing the real scene below me on my local Hereford Countryside and City Flights.. real stuff!.... :o ....!
Now I'm off to explore the Majovie Desert..with plenty of water in my flask!
Cheers, all.... ...!

Good on you for taking the plunge, although I know it's nothing compared to your daring motorcycle exploits!
You will not be disappointed I know, it's where flightsim has been headed all these years.

For all we low and slow, hedge-hopping, exploratory Pilots, it's a shame that FS2020 doesn't contain any default Microlights, Flex-wings, etc, in the Aircraft Selection Department! Most of my flights occur a few feet above the ground, terrifying the Villagers and LiveStock, which is similar to my Motorcycle Rides!... ... ...! Lots of simple, Freeware stuff for FSX, but nothing for FS2020 unless you purchase it...and often unnecessarily complicated to add to the cost! I like simple stuff!.... :D ...!

Well the best tool for that is the Guimbal Cabri G2 helicopter!
At 90 learning a new skill should be a doddle! :D
Otherwise there might be something for you here:
