Tickled by the admonition of seat travel on the seatback.
This in the Old World would have been to accommodate a stewardess on the knee during a long flight.
They forgot about this when they designed the Dreamliner, it seems.

Charl, thanks for looking, but even with historic terminology withstanding. I don't think "stewardess" is appropriate ....lets go with steward persons.
But now I'm thinking is cockpit even allowed these days? With all non male crews becoming more common, maybe , in those situations it should be referred to as the "henpit"

A thing of beauty. From memory there is between 1000 to 1100 dials, knobs and switches on that flight deck.
Just learning how to use the fuel system on the FE’s panel takes hours. Lots of redundancy in all the systems too.
Typically, when dealing with a non normal condition, the FO would fly the aircraft (if not already), monitor the radio and nav, and the Capt and FE together would work through the problem. This is because the FO cannot see the FE’s panel.
Back then the type rating ground course took a little over 2 months followed by a month or 2 of training out “on the line”. Unlike the 747-400 the -200 sim was not zero flight time approved meaning that circuit training had to be done in the aircraft. When I did mine we flew down to CHC and did them there. 4 of us at 6 circuits each. Quite a night.
The INS was interesting and a step backwards from the RNAV available on the DC10. You could only enter 9 waypoints and when you approached the ninth you had to have re-entered 1 to 8. If not the aircraft would turn and head back to the number 1 waypoint. The 3 INS units could be “triple mixed” meaning that once established in the cruise you would do a procedure that combined the nav units to give you a weighted average of position and a common reference on the CDI.
A basic beast but very forgiving and a delight to fly.
The engineers also did the radio altitude call outs on landing, so if they didn’t like you they would call them about 10 ft too late. Not a big problem when you got your eye in but a pain before then.
Aside from knowing the technical side of the aircraft inside/out they also knew where to find the cheapest beer and grub at destination.

deeknow ....I dont know mate I think it must be the default for the monitor, I haven't changed anything.

And I thought the C130 cockpit was busy!
Do you have to utilize any of the flight engineer's panels to fly?

Haha I knew a couple of FE's the tales are legion. I bet you have a few to tell.

Even more respect for the F/E's . I just use what ever I can reach from the left seat ...Co pilot is a good start
