Here you are Charl ...dear old ZK-NCG.
This is the flight factor 767-300, an almost study level model. As before, minimum fuel, just you and I (estimated you weighing in at about 65kg...with glass) and I'm 63kg. Had you strapped into the right hand cockpit seat.
C of G Looked Ok ,flaps 20, spool up, holding her on the brakes...and off we went.
If the X-plane 12 dynamics are accurate, then the 767 is twice (comparatively) the rocket that was the 737....that's a complete nubie comment. But it was very impressive.
The airport is Tacoma.

Mmm my BMI tends toward the top of the green bit, could be something to do with the cucumber.
CP would know better, but I believe the 767 was a very slippery airframe.
As such, wholly underpowered!
Might've varied with version, but that's what the flight attendant told me when the G+T arrived: no fear of spillage.

Mind you, looking at your fine screenshots, there may be bigger motors there...

Thanks for looking Charl....any excuse for a dramatic take off shot.
The engines are as per ANZ specs....but, the cabin attendant wasn't factored into the equation...I need to know if you are smuggling staff onboard.... her, his, they, may have prevented an even more dramatic take off.

The 767 wasn't really anymore slippery than any other similar aircraft. The addition of the winglets made a significant difference to fuel burn, however, the speedbrake range was reduced to reduce the wing twisting moment with winglets fitted. So that made energy management a little more critical. The issue that the 767 had was that the main gear was tilted forward so that the "toes were down". Any minor drift on touchdown and the gear exaggerated it.
The A320 is quite slippery but often that is due to the fact that the speedbrake extension is restricted to 50% of the range (with the AP engaged). You have to disconnect the AP to get the full 100% travel. Odd.

What a thread title... should be stuffed and mounted on the clubhouse wall :)

Thanks CP that clears a misapprehension based on the wisdom of Qantas cabin staff as we circled the spawning corals off Cairns some years ago.
The aircraft was an absolute rustbucket 767 which rattled every screw and rivet on the descent.
But we did get the G+T.

Was it an Ansett 767? When they changed from 727s to 767s they changed the whole aircraft design spec to accommodate flight engineers. They were the only 767s to have an engineer's panel. It basically had a seatbelt switch and sone generator function from memory.

Yes, thanks CP for the real world information , its always appreciated.
I do have one question if you don't mind . The 767 model I'm playing with now is by all accounts pretty accurate, but I've noticed when its parked and powered off, the elevators seem to droop down....is that a hydraulic thing ...or sim ?

This would've been post-Ansett maybe 20 years ago, can't swear to its ancestry but it wore a Qantas Tail.

JMB ..not very much at all, I'll have to replicate it and take notes.
I remember 80kts came real fast and the nose gear was off the ground with no input.... I messed up the trim (I think) as I was pushing forward to keep it down until I engaged the A/P.

I can’t recall that being the case SP. Usually the only time you could encounter that is when parked up with a good tailwind.

I can’t recall that being the case SP. Usually the only time you could encounter that is when parked up with a good tailwind.

Split, looks to be a short run as the touchdown tire marks appear to end where the liftoff point may have been. :thumbup:

Thanks, Char! Our ABC store actually has Hendrick's, just not the "Neptune" version. Also Fever Tree! :clap: Does one muddle the cukes or just let them float?

Charl, no need to defend anything my friend, I love the way some of these posts evolve .... now I'm interested in the Fever Tree.
I miss my nightly G&T pre dinner sessions with Mum and Dad. Good old Gordons or Greenalls was the drop of choice.
Dad has been gone about 10 years now....Mum is 90, and no longer takes the nightly sip or two...but is considering a return......anyway.....hijack the thread at will, I love it.
