2024 first shots

I don't like the default aircraft in 2024, so I'm trying to discover what works and what doesn't. Here are a few that actually do work quite nicely:

The MB339 works perfectly on my end, and it even accepts repaints

The DC-3 works fine, and does do repaints, but it adds an annoying random registration on the tail and for the ATC

the Corsair works fine, although I can't get rid (yet) of those belly tanks

the Tiger Moth also works without a glitch, with repaints too:

the Sea Fury also works just fine

other have more problems, varying from no sound (Spitfire, P-51A) to no pilot (P-38, Auster, several others) or simply not working at all...oh well

Great to see you on 2024!! Great pics of some of your tremendsous liveries ... looking forward to more!! Are you going to flag then as 2024 compatible on Fs.To (as you work through them)?

I have the odd problem where liveries just don't show - or where I can't prevent MSFS displaying the default rego on top of the livery one - despite all the usual voodoo.

In general, though, I have to admit I've had an easy ride so far. Some of the vitriol on Avsim just isn't justified: eg. the Controller Settings GUI ... it's *way* better (and far more functional) than the old one. Plus lots of nice new touches ... like being able to do your career from a local airport, so all your missions (and AI) are tailored to that location. Amazingly, I'm finding performance on par with 2020.

Thanks for showcasing these, JanKees.
I suspect I made the right choice in going for the Cheap version of '24.
I have the Deluxe '20 model, and note that I have never touched about 70% of the stock aircraft!

here are a few more that seem to work reasonably well

I have a repaint showing for the Waco, but it has these annoying registration on rudder and tail. It would seem these are inescapable for now, so I'm shelving the Waco...

The P-47 has a pilot, does fly and accepts (some) repaints, but I feel 2024 does things differently with the reflections, it does look more plasticky..? Not sure if I'll keep it.

The Mirage 2000 seems to work perfectly well, with pilots and repaints too, so that stays for now

Dave's Hunter works fine too (apart from a stuck parking brake?), still need to test with repaints, but so far so good

AH's P-51 works, with even worse sounds than before, but as yet it shows none of my repaints..

I did get repaints to work with the Curtiss Commando, but with similar reflections as the P-47, so I'm not fully convinced

Overall, I'm not that happy with 2024, it is not backward compatible to 2020 at all, it's more hit and miss, I don't really like the UI, it is not much faster than 2020, and all the streaming is often too much for my poor old internet connection, and it does not allow for repaints for the default aircraft (yet). It is not a clear step forward in my view, just a lot of frustration atm...

Fair comment... although that Mirage shot does make one sit up and take note.
What a shame about the Waco.
I imagine '24 will eventually be beaten into a shape that works through most issues, that certainly is a strength of the present MS products.
