After my first flight in the Velocity XL in Florida ended prematurely due to rapidly deteriorating weather and a forced landing, I wanted to make a proper, uneventful landing this time. So I flew from Van Nuys (KVNY) to Palm Springs (KPSP).

Van Nuys – The Gateway to Hollywood
Van Nuys isn’t just one of the busiest general aviation airports in the US; it’s also known as an important gateway to Hollywood. Many celebrities and film industry folks use Van Nuys as a convenient access point to the entertainment capital. The airport’s aviation history is closely tied to the film industry, making flying there a special experience.

Next week, I plan to fly the legendary Lockheed JetStar, the “Elvis Jet” from Memphis, to Van Nuys. That’s something I’m really looking forward to.

The Flight and the Approach
The flight from Van Nuys to Palm Springs was calm and pleasant, with good weather throughout. However, the approach into Palm Springs brought me quickly back to reality: wind turbines surround the area, a striking reminder of how human technology shapes the landscape.

Yes and suspending disbelief is getting so much easier with successive iterations of flightsim.
I see it as a mind expanding experience.

Charl. When you yourself are chained up in Germany because of your health and the daily small stuff, the MSFS becomes a gateway to the outside world and then you come to things like this. For example, I was standing in front of the Aswan Dam in Egypt and before that I was in Abu Simber, where the entire temple complex was dismantled stone by stone before the reservoir was flooded and rebuilt above it. The building was saved, but there were other consequences. But Egypt, it seems, had no real choice...

Aharon: I agree with you from experience. In MSFS 98 we had a freeware GPS for the first time and today... if you look at this cockpit, a lot has happened since then.
My first glass cockpit was probably in MSFS 2004. Yesterday I flew the Black Square TBM 850 for the first time. Round instruments, EFIS and a bunch of electrics around the TDS Garmin TDS 750Xi.
