I’m often bemused by the bandwidth occupied by what are classed as similar things.
Politicians spring to mind – what a huge range of qualities you will find there.
Aircraft size, too: put a Piper Cub side by side (or perhaps just under) an A380.
They both fly but that’s about it.
And so in the world of flight Sim scenery addons:
You could put a windsock and a fence or two in a paddock and put it out there as a freeware upgrade of your local.
Or do just a little more and see if someone will give you money.
Or create a master class payware region that doesn’t miss a blade of grass, never mind anything at all aviation linked.

And then, sitting in an outlying corner of the radial bar graph, you find a freeware gem that is crafted with such care and attention that it could only really be a labour of love.
Here’s one that came my way.

Called Bonn/Hangelar EDKB it sits near the German border with Belgium and The Netherlands.
The readme introduction starts with
Ground textures created using approximately 750 hand-drawn polygons. Approximately 100 custom-designed 3D objects, including buildings, hangars, and other structures, meticulously crafted from scratch. High-quality textures created using over 5,000 high-resolution reference images etc etc.

And as it happens, during City Update IV of the sim in 2023, nearby Cologne Bonn airport EDDK was included.

Image

Two (quite different, and free) high grade airports within a stones’ throw, all in one day.
You can play GA, tubeliner, and rotary to hearts’ content.
Doesn’t get much better.

Thanks Marty, the shots are a little squished by being erm, squished, but you get the idea.
Such a refreshing thing to find, when there's not much in the world that wants to uplift the spirit.
