A loong ramble around the Albatross

Still getting to grips with the Albatross: the model is well detailed, inside and out.

Spun off from the HU-16 Catalina replacement, the G-111 was extensively reworked by Chalk's International Airlines for civilian use.
That airline had amongst other things, run moonshine during prohibition.

It’s quite civilised, and quite versatile, our journey going from water on Lake Wanaka to dry land at Queenstown

The model has one of the best wake/spray effects I’ve seen in a sim, very dynamic.

So absorbed in the scenery was I, that we arrived a few thousand feet high.
You can just make out the runway through the windscreen.
The reworked structure must’ve been really strong, the floats didn’t budge under a 3,600fpm sideslip.

The landing gear is surprisingly strong too, despite looking rather gangly.
On the ramp you see how large the Albatross is, compared to say, an Islander.
